The call-up's a good thing if he gets some match fitness, a bad thing if he exacerbates an injury.
I like to think that both club and player would stop him from going if he's not on track to be fit enough to feature at least a little.
Whether his problem has been physical, mental or personal I think we can assume that if he turns up for England duty he's now in a position where he's ready to be playing again.
Although he might unfortunately and unwisely try to play through an injury to represent his country, I don't see him leaving his partner and baby at home if anything serious was going on with them, to play in a glorified friendly. So hopefully whatever has been happening is now better enough that he's able to return to work.
