I don't see any reason not to take it at face value.

He was out for a while with an injury. Played most of the Forest match and played well. Felt something in recovery or training in the subsequent couple of days and the decision was made to keep his involvement to a minimum today.

It's very normal to manage a player's minutes after a long injury, especially if he's saying something doesn't feel right. Better to be on the bench for one match than play 90 and spend the next month in the treatment room.

True but it's been happening all season with him, it's getting frustrating now.

Another one that has constant "niggles" and another reason serious question marks about his future.

We are going to need a serious rebuild and Grealish is a player who may only stay because we can't make too many changes too quickly.

All right let's rephrase

Is it true Grealish felt discomfort?

Or Pep's ego felt discomfort?
So what is the narrative running here? Pep is supposed to be always right except when it comes to Grealish? So Pep is right in all other forums except Grealish. Dude has unreal PR,people defend him for everything and anything .Even otherwise always correct Pep becomes wrong here

Always right?

Yep as right as with Eric Garcia Cole Palmer 2021 CL final and all the game management for the past one month.

And also the sushi dinner with Kyle Walker.

Does anyone know why despite Pep saying Grealish had a great game V Forest in the middle, he’s then dropped?

He wasn’t injured so I assume it’s tactical, one of those things Pep sees but 7 billion other people on the planet can’t?

To me, (a shit part time arm chair fan) like with Stones in mid 2 years ago, when you unlock something like Grealish in the middle, you go with it. You can get 15-20 games of advantage because it’s new,the opposition scouting and analysis networks haven’t been able to analyse it before to counter it effectively. We then pick up wins, build confidence and start playing better than we actually are, teams get cagey and scare of us again which builds more confidence and opens up more opportunities for innovation because everyone is motivated and forward thinking. At the moment we’re playing a mental game as well as a tired one.

Shows how desperate times have become when people are begging for Grealish in the middle. A guy that has contributed nothing in this calendar year!

He had a good game against forest but he is not the answer in the middle of the park. When everyone is fit and on form actually hes miles away from the starting 11

Think he said he had a slight twinge from an old injury. Don’t think there is much doubt if that game was for the title both Grealish and Doku would have started.

He’s clearly trying to manage the squad with 2 other big games coming up. Problem is that squad is as weak as it’s been for years. I wasn’t particularly confident of a result once the team was announced. The 2 injuries the other night probably cost us the points as it meant those 2 had to start really at fullback.

I think everyone would have liked to see him play again, but from the outside we don't know what kind of condition he (or anyone) is in. Maybe he wasn't capable of starting the game without risking injury.

Not sure that is the case. More games in the middle and he’ll only get better. Him and Doku could course teams a lot of problems. He’s got everything to become a very good 8. Not putting him on his level obviously but it’s easy to forget Silva never played there until he was about 29.

When everyone is fit (forgetting Rodders for now) Kovacic plays, KDB and Grealish has miles more to offer than an unfortunately well past it Gundo.

It’s bloody obvious really isn’t it?

Just because someone is fit to start one game after an injury, doesn’t mean he’s fit enough to start in the immediate game after just three days later.

If he’d started him and he went off injured at half time, everyone would be moaning about Pep being stupid starting him two games in a row so soon after a injury.

Yeah well here's the thing, why did Pep give him and Doku 90 minutes against Forest if that means they can only play 10 minutes the next game ? why not give them 60 minutes and then 30 against Palace considering we were already 3 up by the hour mark against Forest ?
