10 | Jack Grealish - 2024/25

The legal responsibility City have towards his health and wellbeing has absolutely nothing to do with his inclusion into the squad on a match day.

He’s there because he’s been selected by the manager for whatever reason.

If he had/has a drink problem, the club would get him the help he needs.
I've already stated my reasons to another poster earlier on why i think Grealish is in the squad

He's finished as an elite player. He's won a couple of big trophies and is in a comfort zone
To be finished as an elite player, he would’ve had to actually be an elite player in the first place—which he never was, not even close, and never will be. He hit the jackpot moving for such an absurdly inflated fee and landing those ridiculous wages at an actual elite club.

Not a chance that Grealish would be on the bench, never mind coming on if those rumors were true.
If the club genuinely wants to move him, then he needs to be on the bench and coming on regularly. Otherwise, his value will plummet like a rock. A £100M player being moved should be handled strategically to maintain his worth—it’s basic business sense!

But I think he takes too many touches out wide because he isn't confident playing there. He hasn't got the quick acceleration over 5 yards like a Doku, so he's not gonna beat a player in the minimal space he's got to work in when stuck on the touch line, so I think he just tries to keep the ball and that can slow the game down in an attacking position.

Maybe in a position where he's not stuck in a very tight space on the touch line and has more of a picture in front of him, he might move the ball quicker.

He's played Bernado in the middle plenty and he's definitely takes too many touches at times and has no real change of pace. So what's the harm in trying Grealish too?

Whatever he was doing there was enough for us to think he was worth a hefty fee and wasn't playing for Villa stuck with 5 yards of room to work in out wide like he's asked to here.
I wouldn't say he takes too many touches out wide, he can do that there no problem, that's his natural style and his whole game, it's fine out wide it just isn't acceptable in the middle.

It's about time people start to accept that he cannot play in central midfield. he's 29, never played there in over a decade of professional football. pep's had 4 years to give it a go and if he had even a shred of confidence he could do it, it would have been tried by now. this is the guy who played John stones as a number 10 in the champions league final, he isn't scared of trying things.

Bernardo takes lots of little touches to get himself out of tight situations and into space, grealish eats up space with lots of touches to take himself into those tight spaces, he's the polar opposite of what Pep wants in central midfield

He never played in central midfield for villa, I don't know how this myth is still a thing, he played wide left then too, they just played differently to us and he was the centre of the entire team so he saw more of the ball and had more license. He isn't anywhere close to being good enough to get that role for us, everybody has a structure to play in, Kdb is the only player who could be given that role.

He has never been an elite player.

Half a good season in four.
On his game he is an excellent player but also for a guy that is perceived to be "cocky" he lacks far too much self belief to ever make elite level.

The time it took him to settle into the club and feel even part of this team says everything.

He is another that set his standards in the second part of the treble season but sadly a few decent games apart has never got back to that level.

“on his game” is too infrequent sadly.

No matter how many times you say it, people will cling to this absurd narrative that he’s being played out of position—as if it somehow excuses his performances. It’s beyond ridiculous. Let’s get one thing straight: he’s been a LW for his entire Premier League career. That’s the role he’s been thriving in (or trying to) since stepping into the top flight.

Unless, of course, people want to dig up ancient history and reminisce about his younger years in the Championship at Villa, back when he wasn’t even facing the same level of competition. It’s grasping at straws to defend the indefensible, plain and simple!
