10 | Jack Grealish - 2024/25

They have a legal responsibility to have him on the bench of a premier league game?

Their responsiblity would be shielding him from outside of the club and he would be doing his work at the academy and if its worse, checking into rehab.
I said City have a legal responsibility to help him and he's probably on the bench because we have so many injuries. He doesn't look fit and hasn't done for a while.

And he may have already been in rehab for all we know. Wasn't he out of the squad about 3 weeks with a mystery injury a few months back?

If he has a alcohol problem I'm glad nobody at the club has told the media because they'd have a field day of Paul Gascoigne proportions and we can very much do without any more bad publicity. Walker has done himself no favours telling the nation he's a womanising cheat but that's another discussion.

I still say we try him out in midfield..

Outside of Rodri, I think he's the best player we have at shielding the ball and not losing it. He offers a lot of control.

He also carries the ball well when he has more space, which he doesn't get out wide

Conventional wisdom says he should be played in the middle but it's obviously Pep doesn't fancy him in the middle. Pep obviously knows much more than us, but I'd really love to hear from him about why he never tries it.
You basically answered your own question. He'll never play midfield because he takes too many touches of the ball. Everything you are suggesting as a positive to playing midfield is the opposite to what Pep actually wants. His central midfielders need to take few touches and move it quickly, he takes many touches and slows everything down. He has no change of tempo and he actively invites challenges for the ball. now he is generally very good at protecting and drawing fouls from them challenges but again, that's not what you want from a central midfielder, the opposition shouldn't be able to get near the ball if you're doing what Pep wants in there.

Pep could have stuck Jacob Wright on the bench if he needed to fill the bench and he in fact hasn't even done that on several occasions so that still doesn't stick.

I think you're clutching at straws now. Pep chose to put Grealish on the bench to use him as a sub(which he did) to get his fitness and confidence up.

FWIW I think Grealish is in the shop window and will be sold at the first opportunity we get.

But I think he takes too many touches out wide because he isn't confident playing there. He hasn't got the quick acceleration over 5 yards like a Doku, so he's not gonna beat a player in the minimal space he's got to work in when stuck on the touch line, so I think he just tries to keep the ball and that can slow the game down in an attacking position.

Maybe in a position where he's not stuck in a very tight space on the touch line and has more of a picture in front of him, he might move the ball quicker.

He's played Bernado in the middle plenty and he's definitely takes too many touches at times and has no real change of pace. So what's the harm in trying Grealish too?

Whatever he was doing there was enough for us to think he was worth a hefty fee and wasn't playing for Villa stuck with 5 yards of room to work in out wide like he's asked to here.

Look at the other options and what the fuck was that waving to his mates at the end of the match like he'd just performed a match winning cameo
Might have been something to do with his 2-month old daughter having her first outing to the Etihad. But you carry on focusing on your mindless whinging about it.

I heard a couple of weeks back he has a drink problem, and if true City have a legal responsibility and duty of care to help him, hence why he's in the squad.
The legal responsibility City have towards his health and wellbeing has absolutely nothing to do with his inclusion into the squad on a match day.

He’s there because he’s been selected by the manager for whatever reason.

If he had/has a drink problem, the club would get him the help he needs.
