10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Catastrophic tonight, his worst match since arriving here. Of course, he's not the only one, but I expected a lot from him; he lost practically every duel.

Awful tonight. Slowed everything to walking pace. Still farting about in injury time. Has to learn when to push and when to hold as he doesn’t get this right enough.
Was it not Cherki that picked the ball up when Donna was not in nets and then ran the length of the pitch to get the corner that allowed us to score the equaliser in the 97th min?

We need to avoid him getting on the ball in the middle third, David Silva he is not.

Slows things down to a walking pace for no reason, his true quality is in and around the box.

If Foden wasn't bang out of form I would be starting Cherki right wing again and get him close to goal.

He's played the last two games like they were beneath him, somehow. In the big games against top opposition he locks in and really turns up, but in these last two games - Burnley and Southampton - he's spent periods strolling about like we've already won. He's got amazing talent. He's a fantastic footballer. But he doesn't seem to approach every game with the same attitude. There's potential for him to be as good as De Bruyne but he won't get anywhere near if he doesn't adopt Kevin's attitude, where every game was as important as the last. That's what he's got to work on next.
from french football to the premier league is a big learning curve , lacking consistency at the moment ,but comparing any player to KDB is unfair , he was nicknamed the Prince for a reason ,and the best midfield player this league has ever seen , if Cherki proves half as good as Kev then that would be a result.

Did say he needed benching to keep him in check and continue to get match winning moments from him after Burnley and he's been terrible since. We just don't have any attackers not named Doku in good enough form right now when we need it most.

Rubbish again tonight. Did nothing and showed the intensity of a sloth in doing nothing. He's going to help us win things in the coming years but he's got a lot more improving to do than many would think.

He'll instantly be double the player once he learns to change tempo.

I've said it from the get-go, he's a freestyle footballer who thinks it's more important how he looks than the results the team get. Sure he will do the odd amazing assist or score a worldy, but the reality is he spends too much time posing or trying shit tricks that interrupt our flow. He's also continually being caught in possession. I can probably count on one hand the number of times David Silva was caught in possession in 10 years; Cherki passed that in one bloody game this evening. In short, he's a luxury that cannot be justified currently.

An accusation you could level at most of our attacking players.
Saviniho, Semenayo, riejinders, foden, Marmoush. Quite the collection there wouldn't you say.

Not bad for "a luxury that cannot be justified currently"

Mercurial talent but you can see he does go missing a bit when times are hard. It’s one thing giving the big one in cup finals and big games showboating when we’re on top but you’ve got to put the graft in Everton away when we’re getting lumps kicked out of us and our arse goes.

He’ll get better, only 21. Need some consistency from him long term if he wants to play number 10 week in week out but don’t doubt he’ll get there.

Not that uncommon a trait. Remember Kinkladze? Sane? Sterling? All of them could be said to be guilty of the same "offence".

True but you can’t say the same of KDB or David Silva. Like I say I think he’ll get there, at the best club to become the best in his position.

Had a great spell, but dropped off a bit since the brilliant Arsenal goal. Against Burnley he seemed to be trying too hard to do the same again, against Everton possibly going the other way too much generally and not taking enough risks.

He'll get there, but I think we need to expect inconsistency for a while. He's shown a little why Pep had been preferring him off the bench earlier until a few months ago.

All this said, the game was over-physical and we got no protection. It won't have been something 'normal' for Cherki. I expect next season he'll be incredible.

Honestly couldn't understand Cherki yesterday. he was so hesitant and just didn't try anything. he's the one in this team who's supposed to take on the creative responsibility, step up and make something happen. nobody else is gonna do it. so why was he playing it so safe? just didn't get it tbh...
