10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Am I crazy or are there three actions in this clip? Control with his left, then he sort flicks the ball forward slightly with his right and then plays the pass.

His ability to shift the ball from one foot to another to set up a pass in a fluid motion was something someone pointed out last summer, can't remember who.

As if being genuinely two footed wasn't enough, he has loads of little bits to his game like this that just takes him to a whole other level. It's not needless showboating, it's an effective way of creating more passing angles in a split second in tight areas.

In simple terms, I believe that he could become the greatest player in world football. He is uniquely gifted.

Absolutely, and frustrated opponents make stupid decisions.

A defenders worst nightmare must be not knowing what a player will do next, I get the impression Cherki isn’t too sure of what he’ll do next either but add them together and you get what the kids call ‘a baller’

Take Spanish Dave as an example; one of the finest players to ever grace the pitch but you got the sense he has the game mapped out in his head, three passes ahead of everyone which is some talent, Cherki plays off the cuff, Kinkladze to a degree too, KDB maybe a mix of both - enjoy him blues, he’s some player

So why is Cherki?
Because that narrative about Pep is bollocks. This is the manager who had Messi, Xavi, Inesta, , Robben, Silva, KDB and now Cherki in his teams all of them mavericks in their own way. Jack just didn't live up to the hype.

I feel Cherki is gonna give me levels of sheer amazement and pleasure in bamboozling players similar to how David Silva did. I just hope Pep doesn't try and stifle his amazing individual skills.
If he was going to stifle his ability why would we have bought him? Plenty of players we could have gone for who would do us a job, why go for a player like Cherki and then try to change him. It's not going to happen, Pep knows what he's got.

100%.

I'm reading Marti Perarnaus second book about Pep atm and I've just read about how Pep had to basically create an ecosystem around Thomas Muller to get the best out of him because he couldn't or wouldn't fit into any kind of system but he was too talented not to have.

Grealish wasn't a maverick. If you need permission to be a maverick, you arent one. If anything, he had long stretches where he looked like he was scared to deviate from the plan and take control.

Kick ups in a final are a fair trade for all the other things about him as far as Peps concerned. He's a special player who most importantly knows he has "special" in him.

I couldn't agree more. I'm pretty sure I have that book, but I'm so shit at completing them or even starting to read them. I need to start .
