Marios first goal is absolute class. The way he passes the ball into the corner is genius. Then the deadpan reveal...
What fantastic memories.
One of the most underrated goals I've ever seen from a City player.

An astonishing day really. Mike Summerbee had said live on Sky the season before after we lost 2-1 there that we'd be back there before long and making a statement - I'm not sure he, or any of us, thought it would be so soon and so spectacular.

I must say my legs were a bit fucked after doing 7 Poznans (1 at the start when their team was read out and 1 for each of our goals), but on the plus side I picked up a fair few pence from those United fans late on as the goals started raining in.

I've thought many times that United's own arrogance when chasing the game led to them getting battered by so many in the end. When they pulled that goal back, they probably felt that they could still get something out of the game which led to some huge gaps developing. At 4-1, they should've shut up shop and accepted the defeat. That's not to take anything away from us at all as it really should've been ten when you look at the quality of the chances we wasted.

i was on holiday with the family in Wales, no signal in house, just an old TV, so had to watch Red Button ‘Ceefax’, the scores flicking from 3-1, 4-1, 5-1, 6-1 was marvellous in middle of nowhere in the rain

What was the time Summerbee went on Sky and made a bit of a tit of himself, never to be invited back? Would’ve been around then I think…?

I can’t even remember what he said now but I do recall there being a bit of mild uproar at the time.

I have said many times that Mario put just the right amount of weight on that shot. Any harder, and it would have gone wide. Any softer, and the alpaca would have saved it..

Our day started early, a Mrs Vienna’s daughter phoned at around 7:00 to say that she’d gone into labour. We rushed up to York, making sure we took the laptop with us.

After the game, I walked into town. On the way, I texted everyone -none of them rags - in my list of contacts, with an interest in football, "6-1 in their Cup final".

When I got into work on the Monday morning, the first thing my manager said was, "Congratulations."

The granddaughter was born at around midday.
