Doku is the type of player that needs space in behind the full back. His quick footwork and burst of pace enables him to exploit that space.

The thing is. Teams don't allow us the space in behind as they usually defend deep. Plus they double up on him a lot, further again denying him the space he wants to work in.

We may see a different Doku against teams in the champions league.

Hopefully a year under Pep and he becomes a threat for us.

This is what i think too, he had no room yesterday such was the rags doubling up on him and crowding that side , i think people having a go at him are not allowing for that

It is a factor, though. Salah wasn't exceptional when he was 21 y.o. Even Henry wasn't exceptional. Most of the great wingers reach their full potential after turning 25.
They all blossomed when they got elite coaching. Grealish has had 10 years of mediocre coaching to unlearn.

In some games we'll be crying out for someone like Doku taking his man on and creating space for others. But Pep is smart enough to know the player doesn't need to beat his man in order to create the space, he can simply draw players onto him and then release the ball. That's what Jack does superbly. I think Doku has improved that element of his game quite quickly as well as being much better in his work off the ball defensively. It's a balancing act. Other than Foden none of our attacking players really delivered, and that's largely because of the defensive shape the rags had. In other games there will be more space and he'll thrive. Another option, which is only a good thing. I think expecting him to consistently beat his man and put the ball on a plate is quite unfair!

The things some lads get upset about really.

Anyway I think we need to wait until next season to judge whether Doku will be a success or not. He has got plenty of game time and will be acutely aware of deficiencies in his game that need to be worked on. Has he potential? yes. Will he be in the starting 11 this time next year? Maybe.
Yeah. Can't understand why @GX Blue was so upset about the supposed 'look' on Doku's face when we equalised. He's a serious lad who probably feels the pressure

Is there something wrong with you? If so, I apologise In advance.

If not and you are just a weirdo I suggest you read my original post again. I have no idea how an observational comment about his lack of celebration has upset you so much that you’ve had to now write your 4th boring reply like he’s my public enemy number 1.

Not to mention quoting ‘look’ like I said that. If you are going to make up quotes from me get them right.

Move on for fuck sake.

I just don't know how he fits into our team given our style of play. The talent is there for sure.
