Played okay in a difficult and largely unfamiliar role, especially in the first half. Kept wandering into the spaces occupied by others, however, and seemed unsure about what to do with it when he did receive it. Bit of a steep learning curve this season, as I don’t think he would have played as much if injuries and other transfers hadn’t happened.

Didn't happen for him today, although I thought he improved slightly in the second half.

He has and will have much better days. We've seen how much of a handful he can be and he will only improve.

Strange how people don't seem to make the same sort of excuses for other players when they're coming back from injury.
Jeremy's position choice was almost amateur level when Newcastle had the ball in their half. Just look Bobb or Newcastle's wingers and you may see it. I don't think that is something related to injury. Same before the injury as well.

Weird decision from pep to have him play in the pockets. Having him out wide going at defenders 1v1 is where he excels so made no sense tucking him in. would be like asking haaland to play on the wing. The small period he stuck wide, he was starting to become a danger and that forced pep to rethink his subs. Not the best of games from him but glad he's back. He's been missed and looking forward to seeing him link up with kdb.

He’s 21 and learning. His dribbling is utterly world class. The rest of his game needs work, but he’s at the right club to do that.

Probably needs to play more against the lesser teams to break their low blocks up, but he’s got experience of one of the harder away games we play domestically.

Fuck the comparisons, they’re toxic and bring nothing to the table.
Wasn’t his best game by any stretch and there’s bits of his game that need improving, but he’s a great addition and will play his part like everyone else come the end of season.
At last a voice of reason against a backdrop of certain posters posting bile about the lad week in week out, we all know who they are.

I thought before the game he would take Trippier apart with his pace but he was completely nullified. He was lucky to stay on as long as he did as that was a 0/10 performance.

0/10 is ridiculously harsh.

As for Trippier, Doku kept inverting which was clearly instructed of him by Pep. Idk why he wasn't holding the width more and trying to get more opportunities isolated versus him.

1 pep wants number advantage on the front line - at least 5 heads better to be 6
2 Kova is not suitable to be too close to the box and we cannot put Rodri on the front line for obvious reason
3 so fullback has to push up to make the numbers

now we have 1 fullback + 2 wingers + 1 striker + 1 midfielder = 5
when the other fullback also pushes up we have 6

Talented, fast , great player, lovely lad - just not for our system - or the one that made us brilliant last season, well, when we peaked anyway. Maybe Pep is planning another incarnation of how we play and it will work out. At the moment, an excellent player actually weakens us.
The Fifa Fast and Furious brigade won't have it - but he does.

Must have lost possession very easily 8 or 10 times tonight which was extremely frustrating. Hope it was a one off.

funny enough if we really think hard in the fifa way doku is better suitable to beat Dan Burn on the other side
