Anybody blaming him for not finding anyone with his crosses is being ridiculous, Van Dijk and Konate were going to claim every single one of them against little Phil Foden, no one made any late runs for a cutback, he still created our best chance of the game with a brilliant pass for Marmoush because the latter for once had made a late run. there was no presence in the box at all.

If there is no presence in the box... then don't cross?

Doku was clearly the best attacker today, most of them were bad, but he should have realized this, but he kept crossing over and over again.

I would have preferred if he just went "fuck it, I'll do it myself", and he drove through the centre and took a shot on goal.

Most of those crosses weren't even making it past the second defender though. Just kept banging them against Konate for nothing.

There was no space at all for him to cut inside and shoot, dippers made sure to nullify that option and forced him to go to his left foot, they knew he'd beat Tront but backed themselves to stop every cross and were confident without Haaland, again if there were some late runners from midfield it would've given him more options but there wasn't, so he kept trying to force it with the crosses hoping maybe for a deflection or a rebound.

Well of course because no one tried to make a front post run to get ahead of Konate.

Nah, that's harsh. The other players around him were poor, especially Foden and KDB. Unfortunately, Marmoush wasn't good either.

I agree with you that they probably want to stop him cutting in.

This is why I also said there is a team issue behind this, Pep didn't give him any support.

In previous games, the left winger had Gvardiol or an attacking midfielder making runs for them, but Doku had no support.

Konate was denying the channel most of the time Doku had the ball. Even if someone did run at the front post, those crosses weren't getting there.

That's true, but why insist on crossing it the fourth or fifth time when no one made themselves available for the first three crosses? Just take it inside and have a shot yourself.

Yes I totally forgot to make that point, Gvardiol didn't overlap once , now I understand it was probably because Gvardiol had to play a more defensive role against Salah, but it made cutting in impossible and Pep didn't have another midfielder do it instead.

You know he’s going to try make something happen so I love it when he’s on the wing. Unfortunately today the lack of end product ruined his hard work because no one else up front was offering F all

He should play every game at left wing. Build his confidence, he will only get better for it.

People was saying the same about Salah at 22.

Doku has that ability that can’t be coached. It’s pure natural ability to go past players. So explosive. If he adds that next part. He’s world class. How would you stop it.

He couldn't mate, if he tried he would've run into a red wall, if you want him to cut in you need another player to overlap with him to take an opposing player out and that never happened, he had no other options.

Only player who seemed interested in trying to attack. To have their full backs beaten so many times yet create fuck all is pathetic.

Well Aguero definitely would've made his crosses work, yeah mate I know I'm stretching here.

Thankless task. I know his end product is still... improvable... but when he looks up and squares it to a lonely Foden being bullied by two 6'3 centre halves, he decides to check back a few times only for those players to do nothing but square it too each other 6 times.

He was positive and full of attacking intent. Far from the problem today.

Beat trent repeatedly but most of the time he slows himself and the fullback down too much before going past him. Giving everyone else an extra few seconds to get back and give him fk all space to play into. Wish he'd be quicker and more direct when he goes after people.
