11 | Jeremy Doku - 2024/25

Yes a decent Bournemouth side, should we just not count them ?
Of course they count.

The point being, that leaves just 4 more assists spread across the rest of the season, which isn't a great return.

I still have hope for the lad, he just, at the moment, seems better suited coming on for the last 20 minutes or so to wreak havoc with his unusual, chaotic style.

The problem with fans expecting him to develop is he isn’t a young player fresh out of the youth system, he's played 220 games now for club and country, the only development we can hope for us is between his ears.

You have pretty bad memory then. I mentioned several matches against top sides where he had major impact a couple pages back. Whenever he played the team relied heavily on him to create chances. Analytics confirm it too. In terms of shot creating actions per 90 minutes he was in the 99th percentile.

In retrospect that Bournemouth game was a curse for him because it created unrealistic expectations that he can have that kind of performance every match.

I know he has a lot of flaws that are solely his fault. His passing and shooting is inconsistent, he doesn't make enough off ball runs and has a bit of a primadonna attitude. But Im fairly certain that if the right conditions are created for him in terms of tactics and importance, he could easily be the top assist player in the Premier league.
Mate he's gash.

He's the Belgian Adama Traore

Its always easier to resort to cliches than to analysis. Doku has very little in common with Adama Traore.
They both have a super power. One is dribbling at speed and the other is dribbling with acceleration.

That’s it though, their decision making is terrible and are both so unpredictable that their teammates don’t know how to play with them.

Tbf Traore is rapid which Doku isn’t, Doku’s more like Saint Maxim, really quick feet but takes his brain a couple seconds to catch up which is then usually too late.

Traore is just a speed merchant. Doku is capable of seeing passes and combines with teammates. Hes not a route one player like Traore.

But as I said before, with the way Pep sets the table, the passing windows in the final third are so tiny that any winger needs to make split second perfect decisions, while also advancing the ball at high speed and anticipating one or two defenders moves. Unless you're an absolutely generational, historically great player, this is very difficult to achieve for specialized cut inside wingers. The best ones in the business, such as Vinicius, Mbappe or Leao are not capable of this either.
