Not a chance Pep won’t recall Ederson. Zack has done just fine and is a solid and reliable keeper when called on but Eddie is a freak of nature who is redefining goalkeeping and fundamental to our play
I disagree. Steffen needs a run of games to become a better keeper. He should keep his place on merit I think. It won't do Ederson any harm to sit it out if Steffen continues to impress. He's only conceded 3 goals so far in Ederson's absence, none were his fault, iirc.

He had a really interesting effect on the game yesterday.

His weak passing has meant that two sides who have refused to press us outright for the few years suddenly tried to press us really quite aggressively. It's clear he had been targeted by OGS and Lampard.

The interesting thing is that he doesn't panic like you'd expect when closed down. Not like Hart or Caballero or a lot of keepers who are uncomfortable playing out.

So while it was quite ugly and required a lot of help from the back 4, he stays pretty calm and manages to just about get the ball away and then the outfield players have so much more space than they are used to, we cut through the opposition like in the early days of 2017/18.

If we try to do this against a really good pressing side, I am pretty sure he would get caught out sooner rather than later, but for these couple of games it really helped us at times because the effect of getting past the press was much bigger than the danger the press posed us.

Absolutely no way he's keeping his place, I can only assume it's the American block of fans who are floating that and I'll put it down to stars and stripes tinted glasses. Eddie is first name on the team sheet, and will be as long as Pep's here, but he might prove a good enough cup keeper and I suspect he'll stay a couple of years, win a few trophies before leaving for a starting gig somewhere decent.

Echo what others have said, he's a very capable backup but not a threat for Ederson's spot. And that's completely fine. Plenty of value in having a good backup keeper on hand.

He does seem quite coachable so my guess is he'll stay a few seasons, win some trophies, and move on to a starting gig. The club will make a profit and he'd be an upgrade for many sides (either in the prem or perhaps back in the bundesliga) so I'd imagine there would be plenty of suitors.

Completed all of the 28 passes he attempted today.

His only significant spill today was from a shot from a player clearly offside.

We need to see a lot more of him to know how good he is but he was signed for a reason. He has definitely not done enough to keep Ederson from coming straight back in if he is fully fit.
