It can only be something behind the scenes, definitely. i don't think Pep minds the players giving their opinions so it must have gone further.

I think he will play on Wednesday but that will leave Pep with a conundrum. On ability Laporte is definitely in the team for United. But both Stones and Dias don't deserve dropping. Given things that Pep has said recently, I think he probably has to keep Laporte on the bench for it.

Stones was left out for many more than four games and that's worked out in the long term. Sterling recently too I think, although his form is still not great. I share your concern about Laporte because he's still our number one, but I think we need to take a bit longer to judge Pep.
Stones was on a steady decline for a long time, not just suddenly dropped for 4 games when he was a first choice cb. Sterling has been injured.

He has to choose Stones to play at the weekend now, no doubt about that.

Based on some arguments here, it would be unfair to drop Stones and Dias as they really have played well. Laporte will have to earn it, or one of the others will have to lose it, or as is more likely, he will feature because it is too much for any player to play every game. I cannot fathom why some are intent on citicism when we have a manager who has delivered 8 trophies and smashed records that were deemed unbreakable and all while apparently delivering a harmonious playing squad.

I know I'm repeating myself but here goes:

1- We've watched others play poorly for months and still get picked week after week.

2- Laporte not only gets dropped for four consecutive matches for one mistake but he is also effectively singled out by Guardiola - something which he's rarely ever done and something that he hasn't aimed at others despite continuous poor form.

3- During the 4 games he's not played a single minute in, Garcia has made 2 appearances.

4- The game before Spurs v Liverpool Laporte was excellent and him and Dias were starting to flourish and form a great centre back partnership. All this to me is just wasting time when these two could be building the best cb partnership seen in the prem in a long time. They are the absolute perfect combination.
yeah something happened, it does not make sense for Garcia to get in the team ahead of him, that said it's good they kept it under wrap, the last thing we want is for the media to amplify this story and disrupt the team especially before the rags game. Hopefully he will play tomorrow.

Maybe instead of Gundogan and Mahrez it was actually Laporte that had the supposed naughty pictures of Pep. And Pep's finally got the USB stick they were on off of Laporte so now he can finally bench him.

There is no proof this is true. Even if I think so. John and Ruben could very well be building an equally as good or better partnership. And better still, we can end up with 3 Sensational backs who can play anytime.

Spot on.

Did you miss the ‘to me’ bit. I know what I saw v Liverpool and I know what a brilliant cb pairing looks like.

The Athletic mentioned that Laporte was still struggling post Covid, so it's possible he just hasn't got the fitness to push Stones back out - and from the club's perspective, if Stones can keep up his form, that can only be good news.

With so many games coming up over the next month, I'd expect we'll need Laporte, Dias and Stones regularly.

Might make sense if Pep hadn’t singled him out. No way Pep throws him under the bus if he’s still struggling with covid.

Yet, my points still stands. Even if it true you know what you saw and it was great. That still won't preclude the possibility of a John/Dias great partnership. Both pairings can potentially become world class.

Actually, all 3 pairings can become spectacular. So I still struggle to see why anyone is on a whine about a defense that's producing. Simply because one of the 3 potentially great players isn't playing

So I'm struggling to understand your point.

Who is whining about a defense that’s producing? I love Dias and I’m delighted for Stones.

My gripe is aimed at Guardiola who picked players playing shit for months on end telling us all how happy he was with his players and the way we played etc. Then when Laporte fucks up he’s dropped for four games and called out publicly despite a promising start to the cb partnership with Dias. The punishment does not fit the way Guardiola has treated other players for bigger crimes. The fact he then gave Garcia 2 appearances since Laporte last played is the icing on the cake.

A lot of your gripes seem to come from taking a tiny piece of public information and thinking that's the whole picture.

We had this argument earlier with the injuries, where I pointed out to you that the club has access to huge amounts of information and data and expertise that we're not privvy to when they make a decision to play someone or how they bring them back from injury.

Now, you take a comment from Guardiola in a press conference and think it tells you everything about the situation, everything about the relationship between people. You seem to think that because **you** don't know what Pep wants from Laporte, that Aymeric doesn't know either.

The reality is that Pep and Laporte have worked and known each other for 3 years, they see each other in training every day, they speak to Pep privately, he coaches them 1 to 1.

That applies to other players, like Foden as well.

In my opinion you would do well to remember that we are merely spectators, what we see is the tip of the iceberg and accept that we know almost nothing about the interpersonal relationships between these people.

Bore off man. The public statement (very rare thing for Pep to do, especially in that tone). 4 games without a minute despite him playing so well the game before Spurs and Garcia making 2 appearances since.

I have no problem with you disagreeing with me but this direction of 'you're not a manager, you're not an expert, you're not there' etc is boring as fuck. If you don't want to hear fans discussing what they see I suggest you're in the wrong place.

Ok. So you have no problems with Laporte not playing. Your only issue is being publicly called out by Pep. Ok. Got it.

No I have a big problem with not playing him for 4 straight games and Garcia playing and subbing ahead of him. I would much prefer Laporte and Dias starting together in league games but I wouldn't be on here complaining about it if it weren't for the other stuff and the relative treatment of other players performing worse for longer.
