Not sure why people are so reactive game to game. When he has a good game hes amazing and when he has average game get rid of him.

You only need to go 2 pages back where everyone is praising him.

He is a really good player and we would certainly pay alot more money to replace him.
If it makes you feel any better, almost every player gets the same fickle treatment...

Really interesting offseason for him, I think. For me, the best back four based on form looks something like

LB: Zinchenko, Cancelo, Laporte / Ake
CB: Dias, Stones, Laporte / Ake
RB: Cancelo, Walker

He's a classy player in bad form and I'm sure he'll come good and challenge for starts, but I wouldn't be too bothered if the club moved him on and cashed in while his value is high.

I thought both centre backs looked shaky rather than just Laporte. That seemed to be the case in a few of the games they’ve played together, so wonder whether it’s the partnership rather than Laporte’s form. After all, Dias is a giant with Stones but far less impressive with Aymeric.

He’s got a point, Vestergard is fucking massive and he went down like a sack of shit. Foden, who’s comparatively tiny rode a sliding challenge that was 100% a penalty. We need to be more vocal about these decisions.
That won't help much...

Laporte simply can't pull his shoulder, that makes it too easy for a ref.
(Btw, 1 corner after that Zin wrestled Vestergaard and IMO that was a penalty too.)

To me Laporte generally doesn't look comfortable on the ball. Not the best ball control and therefore often nervous. Many teams immediately press him (and Walker, for a similar reason).

He's important to share the CB workload, but if Aké was fit we would see Aké mucher more regular at LCB, IMO.

Smacked arse. Doesn't look happy at all. Always looks pissed off.

He's never quite recovered from the knee injury , it would seem.

Has a mistake or two every game it seems.

Dias and Stones look so much better together.

I think he'll be gone. He won't, despite poor performances, be happy with being 3rd choice.

Since coming back from the knee injury, unfortunately his form has dipped and he doesn't look the same composed, assured player. On current form he does not deserve to be ahead of Stones and Dias. I hope he stays but he needs to realise that we now have 3 very good cb's and he needs to fight for his place in the team.

The vast majority of players need a run of games to find their best form. It has not been easy for Eric as he has had injuries and then the form of Dias and Stones stopping him getting a consistent run. I didn't see too much wrong with his game he was no worse than Dias yesterday for sure.

He is still the best distributor of the ball we have in central defence, just lacking match sharpness. The main problem yesterday was the shape of the forwards and midfield allowing them to get at the defence outnumbering us they attacked

I would start Laporte and Stones against Fulham

I still think Laporte is a top class defender, but our defence as a unit just looks worse somehow when he plays ahead of Stones atm, Dias in particular looks much less influential.

He makes more errors than Dias and stones but we have to give him games think pep would sell him if his son was staying ;)

He makes more errors than Dias and stones
Only this season. Before this season Stones was CLEAR in the number of mistakes he had made compared to Laporte.
I think overall, Laporte is out of form and Stones is in form, but if you look at their entire careers when they retire I'm pretty certain Stones will have the longer list of errors (partially because he's got a slightly riskier style of play).

Dias also made a couple of clangers at Benfica so be ready for that.

I am sure Laporte can return to his previous form. Stones and Dias are class but they will not be able to play every game.

We do seem a tad slower when he plays.
But like most players, more game time the better the performances

Stones was worse last season than Laporte is now, so I fully expect him to be much better next season, when there’ll be more games to come and more injuries to contend with; clubs rarely go two seasons unscathed. The return of crowds will also see the pace of play go up as well, so we’ll need all hands on deck.
