Rubbish first half, looked really shaky, kept dropping off aerial challenges and was underneath the ball numerous times. Complete opposite second half, a lot more assured, started to dominate more and made the extra man going forward carrying it and forcing them to come out to create gaps.

Took matters into his own hands tonight. Fantastic to see him contributing what we know he can. He's gonna be crucial for us going into the business end.

Really gutted that he was robbed of a great goal by a terrific save.

Looked short of confidence in the first half but really stepped it up in the last half an hour.

I know Dias and Stones have been nothing short of exceptional but we shouldn’t forget that Laporte is a top quality CB, too.

Mark of a “real” great player is when your not at it from the start you go and find the game and play yourself into it, second half especially last quarter he took that game by the throat

Looked back to his old self, especially in the second half. Not been easy for Aymeric since his return from injury, but he will continue to get games this season, although I like Pep feel Stones and Dias is our best cb pairing

Superb all through the game , never gave an inch to Calvert and Richarlson who can be tricky players , there is nothing between Stones & Laporte , both are briliant players who take on the responsibilty of driving the team forward when required , we are blessed

Genuine question: do you think that was Laporte taking initiative, or a tactical tweak from Pep?

Laporte suddenly being the extra man breaking forward was what shattered Everton’s very well-executed defensive plan and created the opener. I do wonder whether that’s something that has been worked on and implemented by Pep or whether Laporte just took it upon himself to drive into that space as Everton tired

We've seen it in previous games with Dias or Stones driving forward as well. I feel that this is a tactical instruction when teams are sitting back and marking our forward players and letting our CB's have the ball. They are hoping to pinch a bad ball into the front line and start a counter attack. Both Zinch and Foden were marked and there was space for Laporte to drive into. This would have to make opposition defenders close him down leaving space for someone else.

Was much more like his old self today, carried the ball out well on a good few occasions. I particularly enjoyed when Pep was on camera shouting "Well done Aymeric!". I hope he stays with us and Pep has got him back on side as it looked like we were heading towards a bit of a crap ending in the summer.

Laporte will get a lot of confidence from his performance today. I now think he will go from strength to strength for the rest of the season.

When Foden came to the left near the end there were some very good intricate passing involving Laporte, Zinchenko, Gundogan and Foden.

I think it was definitely tactical. I'm sure Pep shouted Aymeric after the 1st goal as if it was something that they had planned and come off.

Pep doesn't have to get the credit for everything. Surely these players have a mind of their own and the intelligence to drive forward when the oppportunity presents itself.

Disagree. Pep is all about positioning. A player, especially a CB, may feel they'd get yelled at if they left their position and a counter attack would happen in the space they vacated. Space opened up and Foden actually dropped back to be there in case the ball was lost.

We are privileged to be able to have Laporte as a rotating option with Stones now.
