Oh thank you thank thank you Senor Pep for giving minutes to our best centre back of the last 3 years. How generous you are. Maybe you might consider him v West Brom at home too.

:-/
Damn! You are saying we are not? More work to be done I suppose. Until you are good, Senor Pep us at your service :)

He defended fine.
When they had a good spell in the first half he got turned a few times. He's a little ponderous when he turns like he was when he first came back from his knee injury. Wonder if he's recovered mentally from that knee injury.

Stones and Dias favoured over him.

Curious what it would be like if we played all 3 in a back 3 (Ake could rotate in 2 spots, and so could Walker).

Play Mendy, Cancelo or Walker as the wingbacks, and playing Foden and Ferran as inside forwards/midfielders.

Then play KdB in the midfield 2 to spray passes from deep. Just my thought since we now have 3 top CBs.

I’m happy that Pep chose the defence he did today because Stones has done well since coming back. However, moving forward, I’d have him ahead of Stones, different level.

Laporte is going to have to bring his absolute A game to shift this current reincarnation of Stones.I think you do him an injustice with your comment.

Last season when Laporte was missing his absence on the left was supposedly one of the main reasons we had such a poor league season.
Yesterday we had a defence with all 4 right footed.

Yep,Mendy would have offered better balance yesterday.

As for Laporte's absence last season, yes of course a fit player with his ability would have seen us do much better, but then we didnt have the option of Dias or a reliable Stones.

Harsh that he’s on the bench so long. He looked really pissed off on the bench yesterday at the start of the game.

This time off the pitch should do him good because he’s also been liable to lapses in concentration which we can’t accept anymore.

The standard of our defenders has improved dramatically and Laporte needs to step up again.

If I'm deluding myself, I'd argue his lack of presence is due to 3 other CBs ahead of him getting game time that they need (Stones re-finding form, Dias and Aké settling in), and as the season goes on we'll see Laporte more like we expected.

He cost us 2 champions league quarter finals woth absolutely brainless repeated mistakes in and then had a repeat vs. Spurs.

As good as he was in between those games, players have lost the trust of their manager for a lot less - if that is actually whats happened.

If he buckles down and works, I'm sure he will get his chance again just like Stones did.
