Not sure what's happened to him to be honest. Our defence looks more harmonious and less error prone when Stones and Dias are partnered in the middle. Laporte is a really good player but sometimes it's more about having a unit than individuals, I never thought I'd feel more confident with Ake ahead of him but that's how I feel. Last night we had Dias telling him in the first half to keep a better line and who to mark which Laporte seemed to take exception to. I much prefer the way that John, Ruben and Zinny were celebrating great defending in big games last year.
Also his biggest strength - passing out on the left hand side - has not been as good as before, he seems to take too many touches and his passing is far more conservative. Our team thrives on tempo and control as a balance not slowing it down to a standstill.
I don't know how I feel about him being here longer because when he feigns injury or starts moaning it's a bad look and in no way helps the team. Last year he made noises about moving when not in the first eleven. Our problem is getting John fit for more game but maybe it's time to move Laporte on - surely Barca would be interested in a swap deal or two. It will be interesting to see how Pep sees the future.
