You can't brush off his obvious deficiencies just by pointing out that a once in a generation special talent like Rodri isn't quick either.

Our midfield is criminally short on pace and physicality. I think most blues were hoping that if a midfielder did arrive in the window he would at a minimum possess those attributes. Instead we seem to have another snail like ball retention specialist to add to the half dozen other of those that we already have
He played Bruno G off the park a week ago.

He’s since played away in Madrid and Liverpool today. Quite the baptism of fire.

As others have said, he was our midfield today.

When our system isn’t working fluidly, our 6 looks slow and ponderous. It happened in Rodri’s first season, ironically mostly because we had no fit centre halves.

It’s folly to write Nico off yet. His potential showed against Newcastle.

Felt he did a lot of good things. He's shown already that he's from La masia, he instinctively understands what he should be doing from the off because it's what he's been brought up on and is in stark contrast to Phillips looking around like a lost child.

He is painfully slow though, I would have expected him to be more mobile than he is, and i'd have thought that would have been a key factor for whoever we decided to bring in in this role. Once he properly settles and learns the intricacies of the role I'm confident he'll learn to compensate enough for it not to be an issue. Happy enough with his start to life here.

I don't think he was the problem today.

The problem was we made 4 mistakes and got punished for 2 of them. The other 2 Khusanov got back and saved our skins.

But I couldn't really find faults with Nico.. other than maybe creativity but that was hardly him alone doing the sideways recycling thing.

His passing was probably too safe, but that not just a him problem. The whole team is scared to lose the ball and so plays slow and safe, which creates nothing.

We don't measure ourselves against upper mid table mediocrities we measure ourselves against the very best teams so his performances against Madrid and the Dippers are instructive.

I'm not writing him off yet, he may well prove to be a very adequate midfielder of his type - a useful stand in for Rodri. I'm just frustrated that we didn't address the burning issues we have in the middle of the park

Guess that’ll be in the summer when we can get our elderly off the books.

But he does have similar qualities to Rodri and once he gets used to it we will see what he can bring to the team.

You're a beacon of sense in a sea of nonsense.

I did say last week on here that people (fans and MOTD pundits) had gone too early on him calling him a mini Rodri and declaring that he could get us back into the Madrid tie.

I do recall a certain Eliaquim Mangala having a great debut.

Some are going too far the other way now.

Let’s just wait and see how he develops.

Poor guy, went from playing against Madrid in midweek with Bernardo & Gundo for support to just playing with no central midfield today against the best team in the league.

An observation more than criticism of him but he has a really strange kicking/passing technique.

I thought today he had chances to go slightly longer in getting the ball to the wide men but opted for the shorter pass to the nearer player.

I don’t know if his technique prohibits longer passing or shooting.

Nothing eye-catching or stand out from him so far. Looks a real steady eddie. Hopefully a continual and steady improvement from him to come.

I noticed that he was playing safer, which is a shame as he can easily make the quicker ball directly to the wingers. Felt more instructive or concern about losing the ball
