14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Nico seems a bit ideal for the DM splitting the CBs idea we've talked about, to make the back 3 IF they get a RB and go wide from there until Rodri gets up to speed anyway.

1) He is aerially dominants
2) Has wide passing range, and specifically, good long ball accuracy

take that role off Dias in the middle three.
God, i hated Dias and Akanji in that role last season. They dilly dallied so much i fell asleep from boredom :(

yeah, need a far better ball player in there somewhere with the line with have, your CBs are a normal teams DMs

This was another underrated talent Kovacic brought to the team. Anytime he played, he simply wouldn't allow Dias or Akanji to dominate the ball as he constantly showed to take it off them and start the offense.

Late season Kovacic was World Class

While I see the argument for him being a panic buy, Pep didn't particularly treat him as a panic buy because he hardly played him (it felt) during the back end of the season.

Based on that, I'd assume he was one for the future and somebody with a release clause which we could get sooner rather than later/waiting while we had a need.

Khaldoon said something along those lines during his end of season interview. Essentially that Khusanov, Marmoush and Nico were players we were going to go for anyway but the issues in the squad and during the season meant we had to act in January.

If we take that as gospel, it suggests that Nico was not just brought in to plug a few-month gap between January and the end of the season and instead was just one we see as a long-term investment that we bought earlier than intended.

Something doesn’t add up as brought last day when a release clause and got at any time.

As if we had our eye on someone else and when that did happen brought Nico.

Whether he was one for the future I don’t know.

Even if he wasn't first choice, I wouldn't mean that's him written off.

I bet a few success stories under Pep weren't first choice targets. Like Dias for example, only came when Koulibaly and Kounde were deemed too expensive. Rodri instead of Jorginho - more debatable admittedly.

I'm sure there's loads of examples but my mind has gone blank.

Will be a very good player for us in the future and when he has played he has done his job well so I’m surprised by a lot of negativity about him in here considering last season sone our top players didn’t turn up either . Is he Rodri no will he be better then fan Rodri probably not but he will be a very tidy player who can also take a shot aswell .

Dias is a good example and whilst I agree with us wanting Jorginho, I actually think it proves the other point.

We missed out on Jorginho and rather then panic we went back to the drawing board, made do the season and during that time identified Rodri, our only ever Ballon D’or.

In terms of do we write him off, not our choice, it’s Pep and let’s see what he can do.

For me I think there is a player there, when we dominate the ball. Key is whether he can progress to be able to help when it requires a bit more.

Got a goal him, despite only scoring 1, he threatened to score more.

I just don’t think pep rates him. It’s pretty obvious at this point. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Gundo stay and Nico g leave
That would be a huge worry in terms of the transfer strategy if he has been here 6 months and Pep already doesn’t rate him.

That would make me very unhappy if I was the owner. I think he will play a big part next season personally.
