14 | Nico Gonzalez - 2025/26

Every fucking game a commentator has to remind the world of his Chelsea gaffe- a game we won handily after going behind 0-1 3 minutes in. they don't remind the world how he has made surgical tackles, shuts down wingers, is a realty deft passer and can run down anyone on the pitch and that he is 21 YEARS OLD.
Look at Vidic and Evra’s debuts for United…

They both got hooked at half time after playing terribly in an U21s game, as their first taste of English football. Then they were both shite in. 4-3 defeat at Blackburn.

Khusanov was only shit for 4 minutes at the start of that Chelsea game. He actually played well from the second mistake on.

Nico is doing okay. He looks like a player who isn’t playing with full confidence in himself yet at this level, but he showed early doors in that Newcastle win at the Etihad he’s a good player.

He’s quickly finding his way with us now abd will still go up levels! Love the kid and he will silence the haters

I agree, I don't understand what some people watch. People seem to overlook how good Nico actually is. He’s been excellent this sesson - calm on the ball, intelligent in his positioning, and always willing to take responsibility. Put it this way, when he’s on the pitch, the midfield looks far more balanced and controlled. Those gaping holes that were there this time last season just aren’t an issue anymore for us.

There’s this preconceived notion that he should already be performing at Rodri’s level, but that’s unrealistic. For his age and experience, he’s been outstanding, and you can clearly see the foundations of a top class midfielder in the making. People forget that he's only 23 years old.

Couldn't agree more.

thats a city thing though ? watchig tv i end up saying pass it pass it what you waiting for as players close space down now the majority of passes eventually open the spaces up. but hes not alone and think part of over all game plan
frustrating yes more so like against brentford first half they stood off we looked amazing but second half they stepped up a yard were quicker in closing and we couldnt stop them
Funny that - the match report I read said we won 1-0

Evra made his Premier League debut at the Etihad in which the rags lost 3-1, he was subbed at HT.

Couldn't agree more. Problem for Nico is he's constantly being compared to the literal best in the world by his own fanbase, huge shoes to try and fill. He just needs to focus on his own game and keep improving and he'll be great for us. Lets not forget there are absolute whoppers in this fanbase who came up with and used the name Plodri for fucks sake.

He is doing well for Pep to trust him in that role which is probably the most important in our team. Players like Nunes and Kalvin-Phillips have not been trusted to play in midfield and it took Foden a few seasons to be trusted centrally. Nico was not the finished article when he signed but I can see progress - much of it this season.
I am not sure that he will ever reach peak Rodri levels but it took Rodri himself quite some time to get to his best level.
It would have been great to get him in at the start of last season rather in the January window but Rodri probably would still have been crocked by those Tarquin twats

I remember that pass, the whole build up was slow and we looked like we had fallen into brentfords trap, it seemed completely telegraphed and when nico received the ball i was instantly screaming no! in my head thinking he was going back to Dias and they'd nick it.

Its not the vision that's impressive, it's the sense of the game, being aware that the opposition are trying to lure you into a trap and being a step ahead of it in the mind. It shows there is more to come from him.

I think it's safe to say we can focus on reinforcing other areas of the squad.
It was never an issue to begin with.

We had Rodri as the world class starter.

Kovacic as an experienced very good DM that just wasn't as good as balon dor level Rodri.

And Nico G learning the role and slowly growing into it.

We were stacked and set here very early on, losing Rodri and Kova to injury doesn't mean we should buy a 4th DM.
