14 year old lad stabbed to death in New Moston

It was a common game, I remember, can't remember how you decided who won.
As a scout you could make your own wooden badge :)
You took turns throwing a pen knife as the other person stood with there legs apart, you had to get your knife to stick in ground in between the other persons legs, hence splitting the kipper.
Played it many a time in the garden or on the croft/field.

The idea was to make your opponent spread his legs further apart.
Last man standing was the winner.

Using your scouts 6" sheath knife. When I was in the scouts we all had sheath knifes, I don't recall anyone being stabbed, getting the odd knife in the foot playing split the kipper but stabbing, I don't recall.

We also had a rope swing on a tree in St Thomas' church and had a game where you swung out as far as possible then stuck a big knife in the ground before swinging back and landing on the church wall. Next player had to swing out and retrieve the knife.

Split the kipper was a thing too, however stabbing someone wasn't even considered.

Throwing sheath knives at your bike by other feral kids was a thing in Gorton. 1968

plus I was forced at knifepoint to rob a school aged 9 by an older kid aged 12.

Start of a slippery slope for me.

One place where there is youth crime is Townsville in northern Queensland.
That's more house burglary and nicking cars stuff like that.
Townsville was a dodgy shithole even 25 years ago. Thankfully only spent one night there while travelling through but couldn't wait to leave. Was the only place in Australia where I felt on edge.

It's amazing how people can't even behave when they live in such a beautiful place.
