He simply isn’t suited to our team.

He always gets caught up the pitch, maybe he should just sit back but he can’t because he can’t pass forward

We’ve done our dough and are lumbered.

Fern played his position well as did Gundogen(to a lesser degrees) when we won the domestic treble but Plodders is the worst of both worlds. He can’t foul players, can’t pass forward and can’t run forward, backward or sideways

Stick him a Mourinho team in 2004 then maybe but it’s 2020 now and he’s well sort
For how Pep is using him I agree, he is not suited at all. I don't know why Pep keeps insisting with it, its like he is deliberately trying to expose him.

I think Rodri in a midfield 3 of KDB and Fernandinho is fine, my choice would be Aouar but doesnt look like thats happening.

Rodri up against Barnes, Mendy, Tielemans, Praet and so on by himself is a car crash. Even worse when you think that if you get past Rodri you only then have to beat the tortoise that is Garcia. Hoping Dias goes someway to resolving that RCB issue that has plagued us. I think we have to accept that Walker is unlikely to always be able to get back and cover because of how far up the field that Pep plays him. Garcia, Stones and Fernandinho all far too slow or passive at RCB and we have been exposed every time.

I feel City should get another midfielder. I’d still have Thomas Partey. Someone with some muscle or pace in the middle would help.

Just saw a clip of the Maddison goal. Rodri was jogging not too far from him. No desire to win it or even attempt to tackle.

Not going to blame him. Didn’t think he was exactly what City needed when he was linked. Can only wish the lad success in the team.

So what we gonna do then when we play teams with pace, like most of them have, hope for a 0-0 v West Brom or Fulham
Pray that Fernandinho is available. Gundogan is hardly any quicker than Rodri and then after that we have no one else. Its been a huge problem for the past few years, we have no pace in midfield and little to no pace in defence. Beat Rodri and Gundogan and you are likely in at goal. It needs to be fixed.

Agreed, but the days of Fernandinho playing lots of games is a thing of the past,as much of lack of pace I’ll tell you the other worrying thing is that nobody can tackle, not one can put a decent tackle in and win the ball,it’s pathetic,Walker has pace but can’t tackle, look what happened when he tries to get goal side for instance, hopeless, they all need to look at themselves in the mirror in the morning and try and change it,but if Pep won’t train them to tackle we are fucked, and he won’t ......for some reason

He's a great passer of the ball.

He needs Fernandinho or the team to get a Fern type replacement to help him shine.

If the club doesn't do that then I don't understand why they got him?

I agree with the vast majority of that but any solution which involves Fern in midfield is no solution at all. How/why we have not bought at least 1 more midfield player is bizarre

Let’s accept Rodders is good, he clearly isn’t suited to how we play so why persist? It’s like sticking Niall Quinn in an Arsene Wenger team, a waste of time

If(big if but...)Rodders is key to all this then let’s buy players to suit not just stick him in because it’s not doing anyone any favours

I agree, we need another option and a long term replacement and quickly.

I don't think its a case of Pep training them to tackle lol, they just seem shocked when they have to do it. The likes of Walker and Mendy give off a air of confidence and billy big bollocks when we have the ball but then we lose it and in a flash they haven't switched on and its too late, they have given a goal away.

Completely agree, my only solution is to play Fernandinho which as you say is ridiculous considering his age.

I think Pep feels like we have no other choice, who else can he play in midfield? Fernandinho and Tommy Doyle? Gundogan is out, we all know hes coming back in first opportunity though I guess.

I don’t think it’s fair to brandish him as an average player but I’m surprised we weren’t deterred by his staggering lack of pace. Unless someone from our scouting network thought we were playing in Serie A....

Go back to basics. Inverted full backs was a game changer. Gave the pivot all the help and an out ball. Total control. Now we have the fullback miles up the pitch and its actually more like inverted midfielders as they are asked to cover full backs. It’s a fucking nightmare.
