In fairness I hold my hands up, I said the other week I'll never judge another player as harshly in their first 12-18months under Pep.

On the pitch I was struggling to see what he did but he was obviously doing something right along with training well because he's been brilliant this season.

He has improved though, ball retention is a lot better, defence behind him is a lot better and he's coming forward with the ball a lot more. That first year was obviously important in hindsight for developing him as a player.
The reason I dug some old comments out is because I strongly believe that our manager knows best, which is not to suggest that he never gets anything wrong but, time and again this season, his faith in a variety of players who have been trashed by our supporters has been proved correct.

As you say, you need to give players time to develop and adjust to how City play: not everyone gets Positional Play instantly.

Another incredible performance. Dominant. The way he just effortlessly took the ball from davies and immediately set up jesus for a 1-1 was fantastic, deserved a goal at the end of it.

And FYI - apart from criticism earlier this season, where he was garbage, I've mostly backed Rodri. He still has his limitations though, and we'd best be off replacing Dinho with a similarly athletic player when the time comes.

Bad news... the 'like-for-like' Fernandinho replacement you're after doesn't exist. He's one of a kind, and our chances of finding someone who can do everything he can to the same standard are incredibly slim.

Rodri, on the other hand, plays far more similarly to how Pep did, or to how Busquets played under him. He makes perfect sense for the style of play we're trying to cultivate. Now that he's cut out some of the mistakes he was making for a patch earlier in the season, how fast he can run doesn't make much difference anymore.

Slowly winning me round but i am still not convinced but then i wasnt by Cancelo and David Silva at the start!

If you look around 30 pages back, you’ll probably find a post from me saying WANK. Sorry Rodders, you’ve been class for this stretch of games. He still hasn’t completely won me over, I want to see this consistency continue, which I think it will.

That's ok mate. I didn't take it personally. I'm enjoying my football again and Pep has great faith in my abilities. I promise to always try my very best and one day win everyone over :)

I think we can all see now that when we sign a player under Pep it will take at least a year for them to gel with the team and learn what Pep wants from them. Only exception really being Ruben Dias who Gelled instantly. Rodri has comparissons to Busquets in Spain, i think we are now seeing that player. Hes still young as well so we have got a world beater on our hands.

The important thing is for us to never learn and to continue to write players off despite the increasingly numerous times a player has showcased their worth after either a rocky start and/or rocky spells...
