On German TV the commentators said they reckoned Rodri was the best defensive mid in the world. This statement wasnt only based on last night but also when he ran the show when Spain played Germany. They said he was like an 18 year old playing at a 8 year olds birthday party...(bit like the competitive Dad from the Fast Show, or Geoffrey Boycott when he turned up at someones wedding and suggested a fun game of cricket in the garden, then spent all afternoon blocking a tennis ball and wouldnt let anyone else have a go!)

Based on last two months especially, I have to agree. He has incredible technique for a big fella and physically hes just a bully. Yes he may struggle for a bit of pace on the turn but for me the positives outweigh the negatives especially when we seem to have found a way to compensate if he gets turned. Hes also a set piece threat and am staggered he doesnt get more goals. And hes young. A superb player for what he brings, even when we werent firing he was never the main problem.

In the beggining of the season i had a lot of doubts about him i thought he was too slow to play in the DM role but his improvement is noticeable he became a key player for us and he is just getting better. well i guess we shouldn't rule out a player like that to get used in such a role in such a complicated league he deserves a mad respect !

It's good to see that his form is being widely recognised. His talent was never in doubt. A decent rag friend at work said Rodders was top class and that was back early season and way before we even went on this winning streak !!

I remember his debut in the charity shield, and my mates and I commented that at times he looked like the schoolyard bully playing with kids. He's taken a while to blossom, and as we have seen there's much much to his game than we've seen previously. Long may it continue.

My cousin is a United fan who kept arguing that McTominay is a superior player to Rodri. I literally just laughed at him for 5 minutes.

I'm a Rodri fan, but ... the last gasp header by WH was largely due to Rodri getting pulled way too far up field which allowed Lingard to waltz in and pick his pass. That's 2 games in a row Rodri has effed up near the final whistle.

He was missing for West Ham's goal too, but we won't blame him for that, hopefully !!!

i *think* that was the role Pep assigned to him for the last few minutes. An additional layer of protection in front of Fernandinho, as that’s generally where I saw him. Still, he was bypassed a bit too easily in that move.

I don't know how you can know he was supposed to be playing as the 6 instead of Fernandinho and not replacing Gundogan as an 8.
