He was completely on his on in midfield apart from some help from Bernardo. Gundogan was playing false 9, KDB was off trying to play the final ball, Cancelo was completely MIA.

In that situation he's going to get caught a few times and struggle vs. a Dortmund midfield that has loads of legs and will press in groups.

The problem with Pep's rotating false 9 is that it turns into a 4-1-5 if the fullbacks don't offer support. And a 1 man midfield is asking for trouble. No surprise he brought on a striker and we (and Rodri) looked much better as a proper 433.
