Put that last season rodri in lineup and we will lose even more goals. I have no faith in that version of Rodri at all, he really that bad towards the end.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Mind you, the individual performance star agrees with me.

Rodri, did not go from shit to great.

He was good his 1st season, very good last season, and great now.

I said it at the time and never wavered. Dihno wasn't the Dihno of the 1,st 3 years anymore. But every now and then he'd have a flashback game and I'd get comments about how stupid I was. But overall Rodri was a more consistent footballer even in that 1st season.

He just wasn't the tackling machine Dihno was. And too many rated who was better simply on who could crack an opponent.

Anyone who rated a player for cracking an opponent is a numpty, you sure anyone actually said that pal because i can't recall reading anyone being so daft ?

Fernandinho has been colossal for us since he signed for us in 2013. He virtually carried Yaya for his last 2 seasons. I and lots other blues soon saw a very special player unfolding before our eyes, way before the media and clubs/fans picked up on him and how good he was. I remember justifying Ferno's importance with an Everton fan about 7 seasons ago on their main forum, GOT. I couldn't get it into his thick scouse head how good Ferno was then and how good he would become. He wasn't having any of it claiming he was an overrated average player.

I've said it a few times in the past that he was once our most important player because we had nobody else to replace him, and whenever he was out of the side whoever did replace it was a downgrade on quality and experience of such a crucial position. He even deputised the best part of a season as a CB and hardly made a real mistake that cost us. Most mistakes he has made has been his hot headedness which he calmed down somewhat the last few seasons.

I also said that Rodri wasn't fit to lace 'dino's boots and never would be because i could not see how such a slow plodder who turned slower than milk could make it in this league because he had limited and negative passing range.

His first season he was mostly dreadful and it wasn't until around halfway last season he started to show us he may just be cut out for this league.

This season he has been an absolute revelation which I am so pleased to see. Rhodri has improved almost every attribute of his game beyond recognition of his first season. I think fernandinho has definitely been mentoring him because he is now looking such an accomplished player in such a short time.

Right now i cannot think of a City player past or present who has gone from zero to hero in such a short time, and Rodri is definitely worthy of hero status right now. Infact he has become a really important and dependable player we look for on the team sheet. Wow, its a remarkable achievement and I'll quite happily scoff another slice of humble pie for getting it wrong.

But im not a "told ya so"(in hindsight) fence sitter. I say it as I see it at the time, and at the time Rodri was nowhere near the same player he is today in his first 18 months.

Again, most of this isn't relevant as I wasn't speaking about Dihno's history at City. Just the 2019/20 season. I'm absolutely certain Rodri was a better player that season.

But as far as history goes, Dihno's history has always been one of ups and downs. Even though many pretend otherwise.

Like I keep having to remind so many, in 2 of our first 3 Titles with Dihno, he was benched during the run in. 1st for Garcia under Pellegrini, and then for Gundogan under Pep for the 14 game winning run to pip Liverpool to the title

Again, there were periods when he was unplayable and one of the best DMs in the game. But he also has lows, many poor starts to seasons and many poor finishes (including getting benched as already described.)

Yes, between 2016-2019 he hit a level of excellence . especially 2017-2018

Again, a lot of myths here: Again, I'll repeat just for clarity, in 2 of the initial 3 Titles he won with City, he was only key in the run in for 1 or them. The Centurion season. And that was his best season ever. In other seasons he was comfortably replaced and we still win titles.

He was average as a CB. But not his fault, age and a new position had more to do with that.

Nope! Rodri had at least 4 MOTM games that season. I kept pointing it out any time he was phenomenal. But back then his thread only got play when he played poorly. The Gundogan thread needed a new boo-boy and Rodri was it.

You all were wrong then, and its no surprise that you are shocked now by his performance. Yes, he is better now, but he was always good.

Happy you've come around. But like I said, you saw it wrong initially. And lots of that to be honest has to do with Dihno.

It happens a lot when we get a new player in the position of a legend, folks often shit on the player his first season. As they keep trying to compare him to the very best if the legend. Same happened with Debruyne too when he first got here.

But anyway, my original point stands... In 2019/20 Rodri was already a better DM than Dihno. Not the Dihno of 2016/17 but the Dihno I'd 2019/20.

What you (and many others, it has to be said) saw as "dreadful," was simply someone learning on the job. Have you ever seen someone learning something? They make mistakes sometimes. That's the best way to learn

Rodri's best games in his first season made me very confident that he would grow into being a key player for us. His form for the majority of last season, especially the long winning run, was excellent. This season he has gone up another level, because he's gaining experience and being coached by the greatest manager of his generation every day. That's the progression I expected from him based on what we signed in 2019, and he has not disappointed me one bit

I didn't actually him him never turning out to be good, i said I thought he would fail to adapt to our style and demands of the PL. I once said he would probably be an excellent player in la Liga or Serie a. But players change for better or worse and our opinions change.


I feel as though I constantly having to justify my opinions are futile and will never appease some posters so I think it's best to just leave it there.

Rodri has improved beyond all recognition as far as I'm concerned and I must say I'm delighted for him
