But it IS subjective to say he’s TOO slow to do the job. Because clearly other people (like Pep) don’t hold that opinion
More to the point - Rodri at so-called DM isn't really there to break up plays and prevent counter attacks. He's there to link up play from deep and he excels at this.

Our side contains precisely one midfield destroyer - Fernandinho. A 36-year old.

So it would also be subjective to say Walker is fast?

Well yes, technically it would, although it's an opinion that I (and presumably the vast majority of people) would agree with.

Would Usain Bolt consider Kyle Walker fast? Maybe not.

But that isn't the point I was making, and you know that.

You can think Rodri is too slow, someone else can think otherwise, therefore it's subjective. Very simple.

We can go round in circles here.....and you can dress it up all you want, but Rodri is slow as is proven in games where players run past him and he cant recover.

Its a big weakness in his game and ours.

I can't think of a player in the world who wouldn't benefit from being quicker. Rodri's qualities more than make up for his relative lack of pace, in my opinion.

Strange if you're still saying that the next time he is left for dead and we are put under huge pressure or even concede as a result.

A world class DM does not let that happen,or is capable of preventing such/recovering.

As i said earlier,he is a very good player,i was hoping we could have found better though.

Meh, Busquets was never quick. Or Xabi Alonso. Or Jorginho. Or Guardiola. They all seem to cope fine with playing the role.

A team is a blend of strengths because no player in the history of world football had every skill in the game. Simply, Rodri is one of the best midfielders in world football, in my view. Only on Bluemoon, after back-to-back 5-0 wins in which he has been one of the fulcrums of our performance, could there still be conjecture about such a player.

Rodri does break up plays, does prevent counter attacks, does link up play from deep in both halves, maybe Pep has a broader opinion of his role and plays him because he fulfils the role Pep sees. At his best Ferna was much more than a midfield destroyer and much more than what you term a "so-called DM".
