Kev was walking back half the time which is acceptable cos he’s our main creator but rodri does get exposed when it’s kdb and Ilkay in there .

It does seem to be the new role of Kev, reserving his energy and allowing him to get the ball on the turn during breakaways where he is unreal. That said he attempted more tackles today than the entire backline + Rodri and Gundo combined.

Rodri was overrun in midfield the Barcodes didnt give him a second to dwell on the ball , needed more energy alongside him today Bernardo in the middle or Phillips starting in a double pivot would have kept control of the game , we lost the middle of the park for an hour of that game and the defence was put under pressure.
Dare is say i think Pep got it tactically wrong today but the players showed the character to come back.

I couldn’t help but notice the lack of midfield every time Newcastle went forward. Gundo and Kevin was far to slow coming back!
That big circular space that we had pre Jan a couple of seasons ago, defence left unguarded by Rodri having to do 3 players jobs.

When teams sit back and he's allowed to pass or nick the ball then he's the best in the world.

When he's in the midfield by himself and teams press he is steamrolled as he isn't mobile enough.

He needs another midfielder alongside him. Unfair to him today.
No level of mobility can help when you are alone in a huge space against 2/3 strong opponents.

Too slow to react in the first half and gave the ball away unnecessarily too often which caused panic in the team and led to lots of chances for Newcastle.

Seems like when he’s off his game, the whole team suffers.

Miles better though in the second half
