It’s great to see so many fans and pundits boarding the Rodri train! He has quietly retired Busquets in the Spanish National Team and cemented his name as the Best DM in the world by being a fucking ruthless assassin…all while tucking his shirt in, pulling his shorts high, and looking good doing it!!!
Some days, he operates on “Metronome”mode, but when Pep turns on his “BOSS” mode, then look out! You WILL see him pass you by (Ball only or Man & Ball, he doesn’t care) 150-200 times per game, and if you allow him the time and space to swing a leg within 25m look out, because the only question is whether he has decided top bins or bottom corner!
This season he has been lighter, sharper, faster and become the complete team player in a team of world class players.
He can press, he can hold, he can dominate the middle of the park or he can step back and bolster the middle of the defence. And, if you want to pack your box he can punish you with the Howitzer, curl you with his standing foot, or simply dink you for the sneaky bastard running in behind you that you’ve missed because all eyes are on him!
When Fernandinho arrived, he transformed our midfield by becoming our baby-faced assassin. Rodri has elevated that art by becoming Fagin and not only picking your pocket, but also then ghosting by you with the goods.
It is amazing that in a team with Dias, Stones, KDB, Gundo, Bernardo, Haaland (and many others!) it is GODRI who is first on the Team Sheet and probably the player most fans fear NOT being on that Team Sheet the most.
He is simply THE BOSS!
