If we get a midfielder who can do the hard yards next to Rodri and I wouldn’t be against giving him another 1/2 year deal.

If we can get a creative midfielder and Kev is happy to rotate / not be the main man then I would do with him what Madrid did with Modric , year on year keep going and accept each year the influence will be less but he's still worth having around , in that scenario he could easily do another 2-3 years, depends on if he is up for it as it will effectively rule out a large payday in Saudi or US as they wont offer it him aged 36/7 .

He can be our Modric perhaps.
Absolute legends of the game both of them. I can't decide which one is the greater player but they are both so great that it doesn't really matter. But KDB's movement is likely the best out of any attacking midfielder probably that ever played.

He's not quite KDB of old atm is he?
His footballing brain and vision is still pin sharp but his physical side seems a little dull.
I notice this lack of accuracy has him giving the ball away or missing his targets far more frequently than of old.

I think he's transitioning into a moments/luxury player.

His days of 90-180 mins per week @100% are behind him.
We need to be looking for his successor rapidly.

Absolutely this, KDB has v rarely relied on pace. There's no need to with a mind that is so far ahead of others anyway. I recall about 10 years back, Modric played v us in champs league. Was first time i recognised what player he truly was. He was(obv) younger then yet ran the show without hardly moving from the centre circle or breaking into sweat. I can easily see KDB being the same.

An odd comment to make right now when he looked the fittest he's been for 18 months yesterday. Those inside runs timed to perfection wete back yesterday, the team had missed that so much.

We're never getting a 28 year old peak kdb with that burst of power to go by players back, he's too old for that now but he's still got so much to offer us.

nobody in our current squad and nobody we could potentially bring in could offer what a fit but aged kdb still offers. If he's not going to spend the majority of his time out injured it would be crazy not to give him a new contract.

Modric is actually a really good example of what kdb can be for us, he doesn't play every game for Madrid and hasn't for a few years but in those big games, he's there and when the team need him he's stepping up from the bench. If kdb is accepting of that role and we use him correctly, he's got a few years left in him yet. If we decide against renewing his contract, his options aren't going to be limited to MLS or Saudi, every big club in Europe that could afford to would offer him a contract.

Whilst the inside runs were good, part of that can be attributed to Ipswich being totally useless in that area. He had one run where he lost it, Doku picked it up further back on the left and Kevin literally got himself back onside and made an identical run.

That aside, good yesterday. The radar isn't quite peak but then those standards are so crazily high perhaps we can cope with him being human

So you are negating my comment about his challenging recovery by talking about his challenging recovery?

Interesting.

For clarity,
Ignoring fitness or age, He's just not as sharp in his execution as he once was.

Also, he's nowhere near as physical. He's protecting himself and has lost the aggressiveness in the final ball that he once had.
Disagree about the rest but this is as clear as day.

And being elite is all about thin margins. He's crossed those margins in some areas of his game.

I wasn't disagreeing with you pointing out his decline, most of it is indeed undeniable as you say, although i dont agree on how far you think he's dropped off. Despite the decline i dont believe theres anybody on the planet better than him. I simply thought it was a weird negative angle to take when that's the best he's looked for 18 months.
