18/19 home and away kits ?

Guessing you’re a new fan? Totally understand how “brand consistency” is more important than the traditions of the football club to a recently adopted fan. Also totally understand how winning major trophies is the major attraction for a lot of the new generation.

But those of us of a certain vintage who grew up watching City from being kids, who went through the hard times, we remember that 86 youth cup winning team with great fondness. Seeing local lads like White, Hinchcliffe, Redmond, Brightwell, Moulden and Lake make up the core of the first team gave us a great deal of pride.

Fantastic for us to have that tradition respected. But I totally understand how the likes of you wouldn’t give too much of a toss about that.
I remember being in the kippax last game of season think we played luton?? when the youth team brought the cup on the pitch for lap of honour, in them bleak days for us that was about as good as it got :-/

I just don't think it looks good, I've always preferred sky blue and maroon. Considering we want to be a global brand and major player, fucking about with our core branding every year is just silly, it's like changing the badge every year. This year's home kit was near-enough perfect, if we want to have a nostalgic one-off look back at when we used to dress oddly then that's fine, but I hope we go back to a historic kit which reflects our best periods and looks smarter too.

As a 90s blue I sat through the shit, without any glory to keep me going. That included a variety of fairly shit kits, laser blue and navy blue socks being a core part of it. Looked silly then and will look silly now.

Ohh ok, if you’re a 90s blue I’m sure it looks pretty odd to you. Might look odd to the 00s blues too.

But to people who watched us in the 80s, sky blue shirts, white shorts and navy socks was just synonymous with Manchester City. We didn’t question if it looked odd or was brand consistent. It was just City’s colours.

Just as United’s was red, white and black. No one thought theirs looked odd, it was just their kit. Theirs looked shit, yes, because it was United, but it doesn’t look odd. It looks disntinctive.

City should always wear sky blue shirts and white shorts. I did a survey of 1000 blues and 98% thought they should be the core colours. That’s our identity and shouldn’t be messed with.

But the socks, the vote was fairly split on sky blue and navy blue. Most seem to be of the opinion that they’re happy for the sock colour to change every so often as long as the shirt and shorts remain consistent.

Exactly mate. It was a glimmer of success in a fairly bleak time. But it wasn’t even the success for me that makes that era so fondly remembered. It was more because the core of the first team was made up of local lads who supported the club and a couple of them were really talented.

Yeh definetly mate, wern’t just we beat the rags in final the players you mention were all blues so it did mean so much to us city fans in them days

I remember the final, those kids were my heroes when I was just a couple of years younger. I also remember the Maine rd leg raggies throwing full cans of beer at our boys as they paraded the cup past the platt lane. I used to dream about them all going on to win the first division and the European Cup in the blue shirt

I would like to think the navy socks are a nod to our original 1894 kit and will be because we were formed as MCFC in april and so will be the 125th aniversaty at the last month of next season.

Also those that associate them with our yoyo years and say they are a reminder of failure

I grew up with navy socks in our kit for mamy years the sky blue woth maroon trim will always be our best, but navy is just as good

Happy to see navy socks (or light blue with maroon tops)but I really just wish we’d pick our classic kit (blue shirt, white trim, white socks and agreed socks) and stick with it Year in and year out - I want people to see our kit and know it’s us - at the moment we swap about so we look like Coventry or Lazio.
