Tricky one for Pep. Ortega for his shot stopping or Ederson for his passing? Which of the two is more competent in both areas?

Ortega is comfortable with the ball but you can just tell is causes unrest.

Ederson’s shot stopping has become fantastic…but Pep made a point recently about the first attacking usually resulting in a goal.

I used to be of the thinking that was Ederson’s fault but I’ve come to realise that when the opposition get a chance, it’s usually a brilliant one which can’t be/shouldn’t be missed rather than the keeper being at fault.

I presume Ederson’s fuck ups on Tuesday made a big different in Pep’s mind and nothing today from Ortega suggests that he should be dropped again on Wednesday.

Could he have avoided giving away the pen?

Amazing how different the opinions are purely based on the name on the back of the shirt.

Ortega did fine, saved the efforts that were straight at him and you'd expect a keeper to make, only notable save was one that was offside anyway. distribution was just about on the acceptable end but not good by any means. Should be tipping away the cross for the first goal imo, that's reachable, if thats ederson, there's dozens of comments about him not getting there.

Then the penalty, he's done exactly what ederson did against feyenoord, had no choice but to come for something he wasn't favourite for, got absolutely nowhere near it, cost us a goal and the games done when we finally started to look a threat. Ederson got slaughtered for the exact same thing midweek. It's not a keeper issue, it's a structure problem that leaves the keepers up shits creek.

Spot on mate. Some of the posts on here are completely bizarre.
People calling for Ederson to be dropped are voting Ortega man of the match.

It seemed to me like he should have dealt better with the first goal, he should have got his hand to it and dealt with it. I didn't see the rest of the game only the highlights but that was clear to me

Maybe, regardless he was at fault for the first goal
Yes he was partly responsible for the first goal but the cross. could have been stopped before it got to him and I suspect Stones, had he been playing, might have got to the ball before Gakpo. But this is a team game and at the moment the whole team is not playing well consistently. Sure individual players are making mistakes but to blaming individual players doesn’t seem particularly helpful.

He's better than Ederson at the moment so who do you propose we play in goals?
Is he? I couldn't pick one..
Ederson has obviously been put on the naughty step, a bit like Pellegrini did to Joe Hart, that season. It should (hopefully) shake Ederson up a bit.

Ortega has probably got the No. 1 slot for a few games. Let's see what happens.

Could he have avoided giving away the pen?

Potentially. I think that’s the instinct of a keeper kicking in. They all come rushing out to close the angle and the attackers will always go down.

He doesn’t actually touch Dias, just one of those unwritten rules for whatever reason that it’s a foul.

The speed with which he got the play going again was really good. Keep it up

Always feel much better with him in net

Great save in the 1st half, and played his part in Wood dragging his shot wide as he just stood and waited

Love Ederson, but at the moment we need a keeper that can keep us in a game, and he deserves a run of games now

He’s a superb goalkeeper. Played very well tonight and that save in the first half was excellent.

As I’ve said before, a very different goalkeeper than Ederson as he is far stronger at the goalkeeping fundamentals. Ederson is clearly better with his feet.

The way we play now suits his style more, at least until we sort the frailties in the midfield out because we’re going to concede chances like we did against tonight.

Well done again!
