1894 Group: Champions League singing section

its not a criticism of your lot as you make the atmosphere most weeks, but the atmosphere was so bad tonight. i honestly think we should just start again and build a new south stand. we were literally out sung by a few hundred away fans.

one of the loudest chants i heard was about edin dzeko, which is just bizarre. whats happened to the the pro city songs ??
hey jude, city til i die, blues go marching in, we love you city..... rarely ever hear them from the south stand. bluemoon about 5 times now. there the songs that people will join in with not songs about dzeko. i might sound like the song police, but going for a goal surely songs that get behind the team are better.

I thought the 1894 group did a fairly decent job tonight, you can't help it if people sat around the area don't wish to join in with the chants. I think that is down to the club to make people aware of the section and what the 1894 group are trying to achieve.

I've sat down there (season ticket in SS3) on numerous occasions now for cup games and my annoyance is with people who steal the flags. The 1894 group are trying to improve atmosphere in the stadium, atmosphere which most people will admit is poor, yet you believe that you have the right to steal the flags and take them home with you. How is that helping to improve the atmostphere??

All you can do is try.

On a night when so many fans didn't even bother to go to what is a really important game, the very last people to criticise are those who went and tried to organise something. 300 Lyon fans show what is possible, but if you think 1894 is a poor imitation then join them and make it better

When was the last time City got a few 100 young lads together in 1 block who wanted to sing constantly?

There's little point in getting 20+ lads together at the front if those directly behind don't want to sing as well.

Personally I think having 1894 at the front of 115 on a CL night is pointless and a waste of time. Those directly behind don't sing, and the atmosphere in general on a CL night is shit. 20+ lads can't make a difference

Unfotunately 1894 can't get enough seats togethet further up 115, as most are already taken, hece why 1894 are at the front of 115 for CL matches.

That aside, there is a different mindset and mentality amongst European away fans when it comes to singing. They think it's their duty to support their team for 90 minutes. It's what they live for. And they seem to enjoy it. Singing in unison, bouncing up and down, etc.

Our singing sections, if you can really call them that, are a mixture of people and ages European(Ultra) singing sections are just Men and Lads meeting up to sing.

Bar the Poznan era that got the Etihad going, our fans don't have that mindset and dedication to sing like the European fans do.

CL nights at the Etihad will never change. Our lacklustre support will always be drowned out by the more passoinite and louder European awsy support.

On the plus side. Thankfully there weren't 3000 Lyon fans at the Etihad last night.

By the way I wanst there last night, was on holiday, killed me to have to stream and p**s about to watch the game and not be able to sing in 115 CTiD

fair comments mate.

on the seating, it is difficult. We try to group but there are no spare seats together. Well at a push 20, the rest are in a close area. With the club pre selling the tickets it limits what is left in 115 to group up in.

We try, we try and we have to keep trying. But maybe until we build a new stand and fingers crossed safe stand, we are just going to have to depend on it being a good night on the pitch and fans in a better mood to sing. As much as we try at 1894 we cant dictate songs when the game kicks off.

Shows though how few it takes to make a noise, just a few hundred Lyon fans sing good long songs all grouped together and it rings round the stadium. As a fan culture in PL we don't like to group like that and sing.

Agree with you on this. Find it bizarre a song about a player who left 3 years ago gets sang as much as it does over songs that actually get behind the team and get others involved.

Agree with most of your points but surely if 300 Lyon fans can be heard then its not necessarily the fault of the stadium design?

I think a quick improvement would be for a new chant about City. Something repetitive with a simple melody, but maybe slightly more advanced than "City! City! City!". Ideally one that doesn't reference United or Liverpool.

Ultimately I think we'll always have nights like last night, where the fans and players are too complacent. Difficult to envisage how to change that.

Controversial this but as a fanbase, I don't think we want to sing. We just want to sit and watch and trundle off 10 mins early. A minority still want to sing but not enough.

I'm convinced it's a mindset issue. The atmosphere at the beginning of the Liverpool and United games last year was fantastic. We can turn it on when we want to.

We just can't be arsed. You look at the attendance last night, and many can't be arsed to turn up, never mind sing. People use ticket prices as something to blame but it's bullshit, in honesty. Football's expensive but we're quite fortunate at City.

People will disagree but, I don't really care if i'm honest. We, as fans, are the issue. I feel bad for those that really try, above and beyond, to get things going, but it's a losing battle.

This may mot go down well with the 1894 lads ;-), but I think 1894 would have a greater impact if they were in blocks 110 or 111 for CL matches. There might be more seats further up in either of those blocks as well?. It's not giving up on 115, but a one off trial would be intererstng, and just to see if it was any better.
