1894 Group: Champions League singing section

The mindset of the club is all wrong. You go to OT and love it or hate it but for the match build up they blare out their songs. We can all show disgust at the attack on our coach but Liverpool orchested a fan base outside the ground that started an intimidating atmosphere we wilted in.

At the Etihad we have Hugh Ferris who is not only not a city fan but apologies for Dan when he tries to get passionate. At a Derby game Hugh made clear he was wearing natural colours. We need 100% blue bias from everyone who gets anywhere near a microphone pre, mid and post match..

its not a criticism of your lot as you make the atmosphere most weeks, but the atmosphere was so bad tonight. i honestly think we should just start again and build a new south stand. we were literally out sung by a few hundred away fans.

one of the loudest chants i heard was about edin dzeko, which is just bizarre. whats happened to the the pro city songs ??
hey jude, city til i die, blues go marching in, we love you city..... rarely ever hear them from the south stand. bluemoon about 5 times now. there the songs that people will join in with not songs about dzeko. i might sound like the song police, but going for a goal surely songs that get behind the team are better.
Thanks for your feedback mate, I know you take quite a big interest in the singing sections we organise and so on. Were you in the singing section last night?

I don't necessarily think the south stand is to blame, if you put Poznan fans in our ground the atmosphere would be un-real. It's a wider issue; tourists who don't know songs, ticket prices, fans who're too cool to sing but want to be in the singing section, over zealous stewarding. Another massive point is that we're used to success - the reason Liverpool's atmosphere is good recently is because they've been shit for over a decade, they're a big club and now they're getting excited. If they won the league 5 years on the bounce, they'd be shit in games like yesterday. Same goes for clubs like Newcastle or Everton, they'd fill their grounds if they got into the UCL because it's a novelty - give them 8 straight seasons in it and they won't be as excited!

Even after all that, if you replicated block 115 in every other block (as in, every other block sang as constantly as 115) we'd have the best atmosphere in Europe. Our biggest problem is engaging the rest of the stadium. How to do that is the million dollar question.

If you're reading this thread thinking the atmosphere was terrible, there is still plenty of time to join our singing section for the next two UCL games.

IF YOU WANT A BETTER ATMOSPHERE, YOU HAVE TO WORK FOR IT!

You can't engage with a butty box and a flask.

Are they allowed in anymore?

1894 group reallocated my ticket for me for last night. First time I've been in the singing section - LOVED IT! Sang my heart our and have a sore throat today!
I normally sit in 307 and try and try and get others around me to sing - it's really difficult!

Also noticed a lot of fans in 110/111 joining in too last night.

Difficult for us lot in front of 115 to get those behind singing as we're singing towards the pitch. Getting the vocal lot at the back off 115 would be great and then the noise will be directed towards the front and everyone else may just join in! But I understand that those tickets aren't available so have to make to with what we've got.

Can't wait for safe standing - will really help bring the rest of the stadium alive!

This may mot go down well with the 1894 lads ;-), but I think 1894 would have a greater impact if they were in blocks 110 or 111 for CL matches. There might be more seats further up in either of those blocks as well?. It's not giving up on 115, but a one off trial would be intererstng, and just to see if it was any better.

I think half the problem if that the 1894 lads want to be seen separate from the club, despite the assistance they might get in terms of creating a section for some games?

Perhaps if the two sides could have a proper ongoing dialogue (even if that means taking the City coin?) to access database and age ranges for targeted approaches, rather than 1894 having to make appeals on here or through their own social media?

It's just a small cross section to go at. I'd be interested to see if having City on board would throw it open to more fans from abroad, rather than it being seen as a clique of City diehards?

Independence for groups like ours is essential IMO. It means when it comes to wider issues like ticket pricing, etc, we can make representations to the club without being tied to what they say. That doesn't mean we work against City though - we've got some great contacts within the club who are passionate about what we're trying to achieve, and although others who work there are completely out of touch with our core fanbase, to be fair we get a lot more leeway to do what we want with displays than many other fan groups get from their clubs. One example was the CL game against Steaua Bucharest a couple of seasons ago. We had a huge drop down banner which we had prepped and ready to go about 20 minutes before kick-off. A steward appeared and told us UEFA had put a complaint in that part of the banner was covering their shitty Champions League logo and we had to lift it back up. We wondered whether we should go ahead and drop it - as planned - when the players came out as that would've meant covering the logo again and might've pissed UEFA off even more. Many clubs would've told their fans to can the idea there and then but we weren't told outright not to drop it so we just went ahead and dropped it anyway.

I think you are spot on with what you have just said - I hardly knew anyone in 111 last night and there is usually 30 or 40 of who try get things going - crap atmosphere in there last night ,it doesn't help when we are trying to sing and they are announcing the firkin team - out of touch with us fans really !

no worries mate. i was in the south stand near the corner flag. last minute going to the match though. There is more then enough people to sing in the south stand, lots of young lads for instance, but for whatever reason they just stand there in silence. 300 fans out sung us, thats literally all it took, which is ridiculous when you think about it. I'm stood there celebrating the goal and the people around me are like robots.

as i said i think song choice is a big part. singing about bloody edin dzeko is not going to make people join in - barely any one does. there was one moment after we scored when super city got sung and more people started to sing. we need to sing more of the classics that you rarely ever hear now - hey jude, city til i die.....

the actual match day experience is shit now. the whole thing last night was catered towards tourists, constant adverts about hospitality swell, which makes me and I'm sure plenty of other feel very removed from the club. we need the south stand and block 110/111 to start singing again and more of the crowd would join in imo
