1894 group safestanding meeting

I take my 17 daughter and 14 year old lad to city and neither have experienced the standing days and both think its mad to stand up when you have got a seat ! And in all honesty I'm getting to the same point as them.IMHO its not weather you stand or sit its being able to turn up on the day and be with your mates .and I don't see pay at the turnstiles coming back anytime soon

i agree with what your doing, But I believe its pricing that is the biggest effect on atmosphere. young lads like me, in the 18- 25 bracket can't afford to go, its just to expensive for this group of fans. Safe standing will hopefully bring these fans together but only if its unallocated and low priced.

We are missing the local young lads that used to make the atmosphere, now the only people in the main that can afford to go are middle aged men. theres no where in the ground for people that age like there used to be, safe standing areas will help this. You only have to look at some of the away day videos to see how old our fan base is at the minute, the young vocal support is there. Focus on lowering price and it will get better imo

What about the middle aged/elderly women? Are they not also able to afford the match????

It depends on how wealthy their husbands are I suppose.

Good job I have a sense of humour, I pay for my own ticket and can't afford a husband because of it! ;-)

shame for them imo. if you have experienced it, then you really know if you like it or not. as it stands, they maybe are just not aware of better and that's why they think so.
if you have experienced both and prefer to sit, fair enough. I understand it, though it is not for me yet as I love to stand. When I'm older I know I will sit somewhere else.

IMHO the best way to go forward is do what we are trying - to bring safe standing areas. it wont effect the whole stadium.

i personally am happy with my seat and dont want to stand at a game, I'm sick of some people making out that standing will make for a great experience and a better atmosphere... I think its probably a small proportion that want to stand up and not the majority.

I remember the old days of the Kippax and have no inclination of standing when we have a beautiful all seater ground

Thats my own opinion

Maybe its an age thing but at Wembley it was doing my head in the ball being up the other end and having a seat and standing .
Something that a previous poster touched on if safe standing was to come back would you have to buy a ticket months in advance which for me is a big reason for flat atmosphere. It kills the yeah let's go the match thing I used to love now we get i got tickets to Burnley in a months time yipee type thing.
Also think a crowd responds to what goes on the pitch most teams accept they will get beat at the etihad and bring a reduced allocation.and we expect to win so don't get behind the team as we should.I find myself just clapping now when goal 4 goes in 5 years ago it would of been the season highlight and you would of being hugging everyone in sight.

You will still be able to sit though.

It's people like me though, that annoy the sitters by constantly standing up to get a pint or when we get a chance - we could all be shifted away from you guys! Surely that's worth campaigning for?

Was just thinking the same about the old kippax .IF we managed to score I used too start off somewhere above the tunnel in by the away fans and end up somewhere near the front !
How the hell wernt we killed in hindsight.
Wouldn't fancy doing that 4/5 a game these days

somebody getting up to go and get a pint doesnt bother me in the slightest, i do the same. Its the persistent standing i dont like. i dont like the fact that a small minority want to stand and end up making everone stand because of their selfishness.

yes and the kippax wasnt the beautiful place people seem to think it was, plenty of piss about !!

sorry to hijack your thread which you all feel is positive, but there are many that sit in the south stand that dont like standing. I have 2 older ladies next to me and one is on crutches that cant stand all game.

only my point of view

You should be for safe standing then as all the selfish persistent standers will be in the safe standing section leaving you to stay sat down.

you might have a point but it will never happen or not for a long time, and in the meantime we have to put up with it ??? i dont pay £550 to stand up every bloody game. Dont mind the odd one like the derby but not all the bloody time.

Persistent standing has been going on years (since we moved to the new stadium and before at Maine Road for the North Stand and AA lower)...have you considered moving to a seated part of the ground at all? Just asking. For example the second tier which isn't that much more expensive in the south stand.

Perhaps ground expansion will sort all these issues out once and for all if the club get a grip of the issue properly.

i like where i sit i have sat there for years, and its only this season that standing has been coming round to my part of the south stand. I should not have to relocate because of the selfishness of others in an all seater stadium. Me moving seats is NOT the answer

If you don't want to move that's up to you but if you're not going to get all the block to sit down I don't see any other choice for you.

Just saying it as it is.

Standing is something a large minority want and it looks to be spreading.

The demand is so high for big standing sections that problems like the one you find yourself in are going to happen more and more in the next few years. It's a very British attitude of 'I've sat here for so long, I'm not gonna move for no one!!!'. I think most people would end up being pleasantly surprised after moving to different sections.

At the end of the day, there should be sections in the ground for every type of match going fan. So people like yourself who would prefer somewhere to sit down should be facilitated without the inconvenience of someone standing up all game infront of you, and people who want to stand up all game should be facilitated. Then everyone's happy.
