1894 group

Thing with the scarf idea is like what happened with the Rags Norwich City campaign in that every tom dick and harry, many people who never even went to matches ended up buying these scarves as some kind of statement as to how big of a supporter they are.

The club and the traders outside will just start flogging these scarves and money won't go to the 1894 project.

Can I be first to say... Shite name, what's 1894 got to do with City? Everyone knows that we have no history and that the Arabs were allowed to enter a team into the Premier League in September 2008 buying up points off other clubs for August and September. Your group should therefore be known as 'Blue September' (nothing to do with Palestine).

Seriously though, good name. It gives an aura of traditional core local support passed down through the generations of families and generations of fans.

Not the case at all, it would be a posotive reason for selling the scarfs and in club colours. Nothing like the rags campaign which was a protest
against the clubs and in silly Norwich coulours !

On the point of people buying them, nice problem to have if we sold 300 as this would earn us lots towards the collection, at the end of the day we dont have good cash flow and would like £1500 so we cant pick and choose how we get it... It would also give us good publicity, which at the end of the day is what we need to get this off the ground... I doubt sellers outside the ground would sell them, they only do tack..

I'd personally buy a scarf. I don't have the sort of money available to actively donate to the cause, but if I can get money to buy a scarf, and it would be contributing on my part.

I'm getting quite excited to see what next season has in store regarding atmosphere now, sounds like you boys are really getting things moving. You lot are proof that a lot of blues do care about the atmosphere still. Keep it up!

ok. thanks for making a suggestion and keep them coming.

it's very early days. if we had thousands and thousands wouldn't rule anything out but people identify with their own branches rather than "1894" at the moment. if a branch chips in its the branch that's gets some publicity & praise for being associated with "1894" & the project. as we stick around & do more we could possibly look at that but rather than outlay on scarves which may or may not sell, or stickers which get left on bins and toilets perhaps best to just build up the money so it goes on something big & eye catching which is the biggest advert for "1894" you can have and naturally attracts more donations support & attention

a fans meeting early season organised through bluemoon & with some relevant people from the club attending, £2 on the door with a raffle inside would easily raise a few ton & allow fans to discuss any issues/ideas with the club.

a fans cd where fans can download chants or old songs off I-tunes with a % going to 1894, this can be done. others have mentioned collections at the ground or in pubs like mary ds or the townley

we have set up this atmosphere forum because people HAVE talked about atmosphere on the main forum for years and years & you always get negative comments but they don't interest me because people don't always know what is happening behind the scenes

we take the donations appeal to the main forum after the fixtures come out but we'll be doing it with some money in the bag already, not panicking because we're at square one at the start of the season with loads to find from nowhere

whilst all ideas on here obviously get consideration, I would imagine the main donators would be approached for opinion on how things should develop, such as what, if any, aims should we have? blue alliance policy was to work with the club not against it. MCFC SC branches tend to work in that way as well. so we all have different ideas on what might work - people we surveyed were against a drum and found it divisive. there's also a split in terms of moving away fans and what should get played over the tannoy.

so we're going with one thing that has worked initially which is flag days and we can do this because club are allowing stick flags into the ground because we work with them on planning where they are going to be etc

Good on you mate, me to, think we will eventually get there regarding atmosphere improvement..

Thanks for the update again "southstander", flags look great. The claret, blue and white at a few games this season look good so looking forward to last game with norwich.

Im up for the pre season meeting and £2 on the door, we all know its going to a good cause. Raffel any memorablilia etc would be good. I'm one for avoiding collection buckets to be honest but for a few. I would donate to this one though as you can see what it goes in to...

Perhaps early days for scarfs as funds need to go in to a huge fag or smaller ones. Just out of interest though, who would know what the cost would be for say hundred scarfs done in the same claret, blue and ahite as flags ? Who does this type of scarf making, any blues out there know ? If cost was not to much then one or two of us could fund until money comes back in from sale then what is made goes back in to raising money....

Think we all rspect that we have to work with the club not against, i do feel the club would want the colour and raz from it, perfect advertising like the poznan or ballo !

Thinking about the scarf costs, things like that usually vary in price depending on how many you buy. For example, if you were to buy 300 scarfs it would cost say £3000, at £10 per unit. But usually if you wanted say 600 scarfs it would cost £5400, at £9 per unit. So when the club did the blue and white scarfs in 2007 it wouldn't have cost them much per unit making it a better value for money operation. So only 100 scarfs would be much less value for money, but of course is a great starting point. Thats my vague knowledge on buying items in bulk. Obviously if there was more demand for scarfs then we could then go back again and buy higher numbers of scarfs and it would gradually become better value for money from the buyers perspective (ie more profit to put towards flag days etc). Would probably just be as simple as googling companies that make scarfs.

yes with the scarfs the origininal set up is the main thing, so like you say its better value the more you get, i guess different quality to...

Sombody must do a cheap set up to get the half and half scarfs made for each game, although some are poor. Quality of the blue and white bar'd scarfs are great for £5 !

i will do a search and see...
