19 | Ilkay Gundogan - 2024/25

Stupid decision in hindsight but when we re-signed him it wasn't. Gundo asked the question, Pep answered it and we brought him back much to the gladness and approval of the majority on here. I seem to recall you being positive about it, I was.

It's clear for all yo see he's past his best and struggling but he's playing more minutes due to our injury situation than he should be. When we get De Bruyne Foden Silva back to their best and when we get a solution to Rodri being out then we will hopefully use Gundo sparingly.
I agree but even in a minor role he would struggle.

His legs have gone and his mind has also slowed down, he is 34 and also had a year out of the PL, getting back up to speed would be difficult for a player in his prime, never mind an old veteran with several serious injuries in the past.

He was also brought back to become a coach (and possible RH man to Pep) at the club.

I don't think we made a mistake but it's clearly not working out for him as a player right now.

I couldn’t believe how overmatched he was yesterday. Poor recovery, lack of vertical play and just no physicality at all. Has to take a small role after the winter transfer window.

If he starts at Anfield then I know we have written the season off, which is disapointing given how predictable our issues is.

The injuries and the fact that we don't have anyone else isn't and excuse when he is this poor. This is where you try literally anything else.

That would be good but is it guesswork or has it been reliably reported anywhere?
I read a while back Gundo was already doing his coaching badges to become a coach at City before he left for Barca.

Unfortunately City are down to the bare bones at the moment, try Jacob Wright there, he couldn't be any worse. It is so sad that one of our all time hero's is ending like this.
