I think your overestimating what Gundog has left to give.

Re-signing him would have made sense if we had already invested in another midfielder who was fit and ready to play, but we had not. It would also have made sense if we knew we could rely on other senior players to remain fit, which we knew was not the case. We knew from the last minutes of that Leeds United game that Gundogan’s days in midfield were numbered, especially when playing without Rodri’s presence, so what we’re witnessing is unsurprising.

Not going to blame him at all, he wasn’t brought in as a replacement for Rodri. I’d imagine he’d have been getting 20 minutes here and there if it wasn’t the injury crisis in midfield.
