Following along with the River Plate fans' opinions on twitter all Spring, it was conventional wisdom there that Julian was wasted when played as the lone striker - kept him too static. Playing with another River striker allowed him to operate as we've seen him do with City - be everywhere all the time generating havoc. Perfect Erling sidekick? Or maybe a symbiosis they both might appreciate?

Seen him play Palace and now Forest. The guy seems the master of the assist before the assist. All due to his work rate and being everywhere. Very clever player.
Very deserved his two goals last night. Could’ve had a hattrick as well.

Could Alvarez be Gundogan's replacement next season?

If so maybe we'll get another striker in the summer? Or even in the winter window?

(By the way I'm asking this because maybe Alvarez is even better than we imagined and can be the type of midfielder who scores for fun)

No

One noticeable thing about him is that his legs are really powerful, like aguero’s…has that compact sturdy low center of gravity in big quads/hamstrings that means real strength and explosiveness through the box. Always love gabby and appreciate sterling, but I feel like he has a different kind of power to move through the box and the people in it…and then seriously hit it.

Quite an amazing full debut last night. Two great goals, could have had more and worked his socks off. If Haaland hadn't stolen all the headlines we'd have been raving about him.
