I liked Ferran Torres but Julian Alvarez already looks a level above. The success ofJesus at Arsenel shows the level needed to play for City and how much learning about the game is needed to play in a Pep side?

Julian is an upgrade on Ferran and Gabby and their combined strengths with the potential to be a truly great player as he learns and develops. I am a fan.

I love how full of confidence he is, those finishes yesterday (1 high into the roof of the net, 1 when he could have passed to Haaland) were the goals of someone backing themselves 100%.

The club just need to manage him carefully and not end up with another Aguero/Jesus situation, we all saw how quickly Jesus went from high flying confident youngster to nervous, frustrated wreck literally beating himself up when he missed a chance by being the backup who had to take every chance whenever Aguero was out for a fortnight.

Not to mention if he is as good as some people think, he might not settle for being the junior partner for too long.

Hopefully the 442 we played yesterday and Alvarez being more comfortable on the wing straight away will mean there's less of an overlap between them.

It's too early to say and we have little insight yet but I think personality wise he might be more of a brawler than Jesus. The occasional thing that didn't go his way last night didn't seem to phase him at all, he just got straight back at it. Jesus seemed like a lovely guy but as you say he got himself twisted round the axle and lost a lot of confidence, was possibly 'too nice' even? I just have a feeling Alvarez will stand up for himself which might in turn cause its own problems but there are worse problems to have than Alvarez turning to Haaland and saying.. bullshit, you can be my wingman!

Always think that two footedness is an under-rated asset, and Alvarez is very two-footed. Must be huge advantage as a striker to take the ball on either foot as it comes to you, and how does a defender know which side to show you?

Anyone know whether Julian is left or right footed?

It's also hard to believe that he is actually older than Haaland

Those two goals reminded me so much of similar goals Sergio scored. Very Sergio-esque.
The second goal reminded me of Sergio's 4th against Leicester a few years ago - edge of the area, no obvious pass on so just smash it into the roof of the net!

What a prospect for 14 fucking million, where were the rest of Europe's scouts?

Looks like a cracking player. Two good finishes and he was still chasing down the ball in the last minute too. The way he carved out his chance that hit the post was encouraging also.

Could be bargain of the season.

Definitely right but showed with those 2 shots last night(one against the post) how good his weaker foot is.
