[Olé] Iván Zamorano: "Julián Álvarez is a more complete forward than Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland. Haaland is not good on the wings. And Mbappé does not participate much as a number 9. Julian does all of that."

We are extremely lucky to have him and I’m very much looking forward to him continuing his fantastic WC form but there’s no comparison needed or warranted. Haaland has his own special skill set which not many on the planet possess. Let’s just hope they can build some momentum playing together.

That logic is so flawed

James Milner can play central midfield and full back. Neymar can’t. That means Milner is better.

Correct, whilst I rate Alvarez being a jack of all trades often means you never reach the top tier of players.
I’m going to be that guy and say that the full phrase is “a jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one”. The original phrase was meant as a compliment but somehow connotes negativity in the modern era.

Nonetheless, I believe he’ll be fine. Him having more weapons in his arsenal should be seen as an advantage rather than a detriment.

Guessing Zinchenko's a more complete midfielder compared to Messi. Considering how he can play as an AM/CM/DM and as an added bonus also as a fullback, Messi can't play in all these positions like the Zinchman. Why is Messi even considered as the best footballer in the world and not Zinchy? Surely football fans and pundits across the world are getting it wrong, right?

Personally, think he's a better overall finisher than Mbappe, especially when considering variety and his weak foot.

Mbappe simply has unrivalled physicality to get him in more positions to get more chances that Alvarez will never reach (nobody in the world can tbh).

Thank you for that well constructed criticism, I will internalize it and put it in a very special place.
You're most welcome.
nah julian has more variety of finishes compared to mbappe I would say. but it depends on what you call better finishing.
Alvarez, despite being a very, very good player in the making (time will tell) isn't in the same ballpark as Mbappé, in any aspect of his game, except his fantastic workrate. Especially the finishing which is still rough in the case of the Julian.

I don't think that anyone who makes a similar claim as the poster I quoted above yours has either watched enough of Mbappé or isn't going full sky blue tinted specs.

I know I stepped on a land mine here, but I just can't fathom any reasonable comparison between the two players at their current level. Jesus Christ.

sorry alvarez has better variety of finishing, vision, passing and work rate than mbappe if you disagree you don't understand the game. mbappe could be a more impactful player on the pitch but does not mean he is better at everything. if you say messi is better at everything then I can agree, mbappe nah he is not a complete player at all.

There is no land mine to step on here, but the very least I expect when someone is going to refute my claim is give an actual reason, hence my sacrcastic reply to your nothing comment.

Even in your reply, it's just kind of "Alvarez is worse at everything but work rate, just because I said so". Not much I can do with that is there?

I've seen plenty of Mbappe, he's a phenomenal finisher, and his athleticism is #1 in the world which gives him all those chances... but Alvarez still has a better weak foot and more variety, which is what I claimed.
