1969/70 - Man City v West Brom (League Cup Final - 7.3.70)

Just come across this on YouTube, just look at the state of the pitch

Thanks for posting this. It was my first trip to Wembley and it was a fantastic match, probably Franny's best game for us. I can remember it more vividly than many of our recent trips to Wembley. We really were a "pass and move" team. Very few long balls. I forgot how great Mike Doyle was at playing out from the back. Not that different to Stones really. Joe Mercer famously described the pitch as "a cabbage patch."

Was that ITV coverage? I like the way how they don’t want to tell you the result at the start of the programme but still introduce Man of the Match Francis Lee who will discuss the game later.

It was Brian Moore who was the ITV anchorman and a superb broadcaster. The football analysis was great in those days with people like Brian Clough and Malcolm Allison and the players giving proper interviews. The focus was on the football not political issues. The idea of a player describing his thought process as he provided an assist while watching it back was very effective.
