1970's MCFC

I was 18 then and it seems like yesterday. Leeds was my favourite awayday in terms of adrenalin. Great policing too, you knew where you stood. The only real thumping I got at a match was from a policeman at Nottingham Forest. And I deserved it.
I got whacked across the back of the legs by a copper with a signalling stick outside Bolton train station before the League Cup game in 1971,when we got beat 3-0.
I was only watching all the scrapping going on as well.

In fairness it was just as bad for them at Maine Rd , with the added bonus of Utd sometimes in town waiting to give them a slap. Mad times

You had to admire the liverpool police, they soldiered on working even though so many of them had walking sticks on a Saturday afternoon.

Fuck me, we have an old cunts thread. Great read, so many memories.

I went my first game in 68, i was only 3 though so don't remember it, i do remember seeing Bobby Moore play because my grandad pointed him out and told me to remember him because he was Captain when we won the WC .

I got my first season ticket in 76, I think it was something like £5.60p Kippax Junior, programmes were 10p, 2p on the 157 bus from Cheadle. Got off at the bottom of Platt Lane and walked up to the ground, through the back allies, dog shit alley, and then there she was, the place I love more than any other in my life. When we were kids we would get there for 12-30pm so we were first in and we would run to get a place over the tunnel. The singing would start straight away and the Kippax always seemed full an hour before Kick off, as we got older we loved to be in the Choir, for derby days we would get right next to the fence and rags we knew would be a few feet away and we hated them, spat at each other for the whole game. It was safe there, the coins and other stuff would go your your heads, but if you were last out you could pick up enough for a chippy on the way home. Remember Spurs arriving in white butcher coats singing "we are evil" the scousers all dressed in Fila and Adidas, us in Fred Perry, Peter Werth, Diadora's and Ellesse. United always trying to infiltrate the Kippax and usually getting a kicking. "Beat em on the Head with a baseball bat", the burger man who sold those shit burgers outside, the bogs were you swam in piss, the mobile police nick on the car park, only ended up in there once, thrown out for aggressive staring aged about 14. Meeting some Chorlton girls every week who we had a laugh with, i fancied one of them , cant remember her name, but she was City mad.

Then sneaking to aways, telling my mam , we were at home and going to Leeds, my mate getting stabbed in the hand, Leeds fans being cunts, the Cool Cats arriving and no Leeds going near them, Getting bricked and told ny Leeds coppers we were Manc bastards who shouldn't have come, we were kids. Daft Donald at Victoria doing his lend us 10p routine and singing were gonna stab a scouser, Daft Donad again at West Ham in there end on his own. The specials, i am sure Cheesy sold the butties on them, the escorts to grounds, loads of windows going through in Derby after we all sat down all match. Getting to Spurs and realising there was only about 200 of us there, then as we got older, doing the midnight to games down south, getting to Southampton at 6-30am so getting the ferry to the IOW so we could have a beer as the bars opened as soon as it left port.

So many great memories, the Kings comeback gang, still the most atmosphere at a game i have witnessed, Widzew Lodz under floodlights at marvelling at Boniek, the brilliance of Kazi Deyna, Hartford scoring i think to beat Forest the Champions, losing 4-0,5-0 every year to Liverpool and then watching the carnage on the Kippax car park afters. The Pink final bus, silk scarves, city patches, singing Bring on the Champions even we weren't

I fucking loved that place, the Etihad is decent, but for me Maine Road was special, maybe because my Grandad went to the first game there and i was at the last. I would though swap everything we have won, everything we are for one last hurrah on the Kippax, because I loved it.
Thats a great read Rascal,i remember when Spurs turned up in the white coats and tried to charge the Kippax.
I was also at the Baseball Ground when we all sat down on the terracing.....truly happy days.

"Lively... "

You're a master of understatement Percy!
Leeds animosity seems mainly directed at the other half of our city these days. Their fans spent a good slice of the second half at Burnley reminding everyone that " Sancho and Rashford let the country down". Almost feel a fondness for Yorkshire's finest.

went to that game, stood on the low fields near the halfway line that game was manic, a car with Leeds fans on the way home on the M62 tried to ram us off the road, LOL I had an old cortina 1600 and I didn't care a fuck as I put them up the embankment, then when we got back to Donny, I asked my mate to get the football paper, he went to the paper seller near the railway station just as the train from leeds was pulling in, all i heard was him yelling me to open door and get the fuck out of there

Don’t think so. Right up there with United, Tottenham and Liverpool. Horrible bunch. Hope they go down.
