trying to stay away from the transfer forum, but I
Now then, seen as Mancini is starting to give some of the youth lads a game here and there, I've been thinking how many of the youth cup winning team from 86, would be good enough to hold down a regular place in the current side, for me the core of that team which was Hinchcliffe, Redmond, Brightwell, Lake, White, Moulden and Scott, at least 4 would get in the current team.

The full 12 is :

1. Crompton
2. Millis
3. Hinchcliffe
4. Brightwell
5. Redmond
6. Thackeray
7. White
8. Moulden
9. Lake
10. Scott
11. Boyd
12. Macauley

Have a look and decide who you think would be good enough.

OP if 4 of them got imto our first team we;d be nowhere near the top of the table.

If that lot were coming through in out current squad only Lakey would make the team eventually.

Hinchy, Brightwell and Redmond would get a game or so but not have the time /be good enough. To be honest at no time in their careers would Brightwell/Redmond be good enough. Hinchy may have had a run if 'bought back' later in his career as a 2/3 choice.

Moulden & White wouldn't have got game time.

The rest no chance at all.

Which four?

Lake, obviously, and maybe White, with his pace and power down the right.

But beyond that?

Do you think that Hinchcliffe was better than Clichy?

Or Redmond better than Kompany / Lescott / Nastasić / Kolo?

Maybe you would have Brightwell in the side instead of Barry, YaYa or Milner. Or at right-back rather than Zabaleta, Richards or Maicon.

No, IMHO, Lake was the only one of that side who could hold his own in this current team.

The four I would've said were Hinch, Whitey, Bobby and Lakey. Hinch and Bobby decent full backs, Lakey would be great next to Kompany or with Yaya in the middle and Whitey to me would be super up top with Aguero, he had blistering pace, strength and could finish and also a decent option out wide if needed.

Ian Scott.

All he ever did was those little sideways passes that are all the rage now. He was before his time.

Maybe Whitey too. Imagine him in the Champions League, knocking it down the line and running his full-back. They wouldn't know what'd hit 'em.

Agree with Lake.

I watched all these lads come through 83 onwards, was them with the youth cup and make their first team debuts.
I was proud of those teams with 7 or 8 home grown players, the 5-1, Lakey and White playing for England.

However I don't think any of them would be good enough to play in todays team.

Only Lake and White would have any kind of chance , but i doubt whether either would play many games in this current City side.

Not even Paul Lake?

Surely you can't be serious?

I think Lake could have made it, he was at least as good as Milner though it's hard to compare then vs. now (training methods, etc.). I'm not sure any of the others would have though, the level is incredibly high now.
