I don’t know what he is anymore. I love his energy but I never expect anything from him with regards to goals and/or assists. He is the sort of player that when the creative players around him play well, Bernies energy and commitment looks like a major plus. When the creative players don’t perform, he looks lost because he doesn’t bring much to the table with regards to pushing us forward. With Gundogan at CDM, Bernie in midfield and KDB as false #9, it put a huge amount of pressure on Foden to produce and it just didn’t work out tonight.

It’s all just too safe from him. I don’t believe that’s the player we bought but it’s certainly what we have now. When we are playing against a back 5 and the wingers are being marked so tightly, the #8s have to give us another dimension to give the opposition something to worry about in the middle. This is what the Merlin/KDB partnership did so well. Watching Bernie do a couple of pirouettes and then inevitably play backwards just makes their life too easy.
 
Normally he's covering Rodri or helping out the fullback when dinho is in the middle, tonight he had all that to do and attempt to fill the hole where a DM would be because of the tactics and as such was left chasing shadows all game. Not his fault in the slightest.

Always baffles me the criticism he gets when things do go well and the lack of appreciation when it does. The popular "he's not the same player as he was" comment is equally nonsensical. Of course he isn't, he hasn't played right wing for 2 seasons, he's doing an entirely different job.

He's as vital to this side as kdb in my eyes. he sews everything together both ways it's just not as flashy as what other players do. He also gets no credit whatsoever for the fact he's asked to play a different position and a different role almost every single game. It's incredibly difficult to do that with any concistency when he's never given the chance to find rhythm.

Suggesting Grealish replaces him is about as laughable as the lineup tonight. They don't do anywhere near the same role.
 
Never thought he was a right winger, don’t really know what he is in our team anymore. Don’t think he’s done anything to justify being in our team but I know he is special in some way. It’s a weird one

He really never has gotten back to the 2018 level outside the odd game here and there this season and we'e rapidly approaching 2022.

I dont want him to go, I want him and Pep to sit down and fix him.
