Sign Kante haha.

Bernardo is one of the most gifted players we have in the team, if not the best. He's wasted. Go back to when Kevin was out injured, just look at the team performances with him dictating play. We are holding him back to please players like Gundo. It's criminal.

We were a very different team in 18/19. And David Silva was the one dictating the play for us, not Bernardo. Bernardo had an excellent season that year but David was the one controlling the game.

I was talking about this season when Kevin was out injured. The one when the run ended as soon as Bernardo got benched. I would say Bernardo run the majority of them games and was fantastic.

Ah, my apologies for misunderstanding. I still don't know if I subscribe to the theory that Bernardo was running the game for us, although he was a very important player for that run. Rodri and Gündy both average more passes and key passes per game than Bernardo, which suggest to me they were at the very least as important as Bernardo to our game this season.

I'm not sure how accurate this is, but have a look.

That's what I was looking at. You'll notice Rodri and Gündy both playing significantly more passes per game than Bernardo.

Bernardo averages about the same number of passes per game as De Bruyne, and to be fair to Bernardo he loses the ball less often the Kev. The big difference though is that while De Bruyne and Bernardo actually played almost identical number of minutes in the league this season, De Bruyne has double the number of assists and three times as many goals as Bernardo

And De Bruyne's numbers are the same as Grealish but Grealish played 180 minutes more in the league last season.... for Villa.

Plenty of players out there would be destroying Bernardo's numbers I think. He's a brilliant player but end product needs to improve. However, it's so hard to judge in a side that played a false 9. Bernardo was a key link with others and, like with Silva, probably played a lot of the pre-assist balls which the stats don't yet review but is a critical part of the game.

Don't disagree with any of that. I think Bernardo is a terrific player and was a vital part of that winning run this season, but it's precisely because he is so talented that I want a bit more from him in terms of creativity and hurting the opposition

He's an old fashioned fans favourite in many ways. He runs and runs and runs and there's no lost cause in his book. The fact we win so many games with him in the side is evidence of his importance. That's why statistics are only part of the story and will evolve as time goes on to cover "pre-assists" and things like that in my opinion. We'll soon have the triple double like the NBA with players hitting 10 goals, 10 assists and 10 pre-assists!

We do have key passes already, which can be a useful indicator, but they’re less “clean” than a pre-assist, granted
