Can we start giving Bernardo the freedom to effect the game with the ball?
The trouble with that idea is that we will then have three players (KDB, Gundo and Bernie) with “freedom of the park”. You simply can’t play with that lack of positional discipline.

When I read the reports this morning that Bernie might be offered for sale my first reaction was disbelief. Then, when I thought about it, it makes sense. We are not short of creative midfielders, he is a very bankable asset and we could make a decent profit on our investment and lastly, to be honest, he hasn’t really delivered as Merlin’s replacement in the way most of us expected him to.

I’d be sad to see him go but if he helped fund a new left back and/or striker I’d get over it.

Love the guy to bits but I do think he needs to calm down sometimes, amazing energy levels but runs about like a lunatic a little too much.

Has so much ability a wonderful footballer, although he really should improve his finishing.

He brings so much personality and energy to the team, that would be hard to replace. At the same time though, he very rarely gets on the score sheet and doesn't massively really chip in with assists. 12 months ago i'd of not really been bothered if he left, but he definitely stepped it up this season.

If we got a good fee for him and then invested that in a very good CM who bring pace and energy to the side, i think we would be fine.

And another thing that people are overlooking is his injury record, it’s very good. So if we let him go we are left with Kevin and Gundo as the ‘creative cm’s’ you are left with two players who always seem to get injured. I’ve sed it many times and I will say it again I would take Bernardo over Gundo any day. And if we want to sacrifice a CM I would be looking at Rodri and Gundo first.

Not been the same since coming back from the Nations League Finals. This season was better than last but still limp for me. Works hard but really bar the odd good goal he's the weakest attacker by far not just in stats but oppo.

His two league goals were Everton and Villa..
His six league assists were Villa (2), Everton, Leeds, Liverpool, and West Brom.

8 involvements of which 4 were two teams. 1 v a top 4 side. 1 v Relegated team.

If this were any other attacker, he'd be slammed for this. I think sell him for a good price and that is easily replaced. Also might persuade Mendy to follow him.

He's an old fashioned fans favourite in many ways. He runs and runs and runs and there's no lost cause in his book. The fact we win so many games with him in the side is evidence of his importance. That's why statistics are only part of the story and will evolve as time goes on to cover "pre-assists" and things like that in my opinion. We'll soon have the triple double like the NBA with players hitting 10 goals, 10 assists and 10 pre-assists!
Stats can lie.

We have too many talented players that play in similar positions such as KDB/Bernardo. It forces the manager to shoehorn them into the lineup because it would be criminal not to play an individual with such ability.

At the moment hes basically a Portuguese James Milner and is forced to play the grafter role when he can contribute way more if allowed to play free as we've seen when others are injured.

He seemed to run around a lot more last season and spend more time chasing lost causes rather than actually hurting teams, but I’m not sure how much of that is due to instruction or due to instinct.

If a player is low on confidence or out of touch they can often slip into the grafter role, rather than actually try to get forward and make something happen. He did look better last year than the previous season, but his form was still patchy and he tailed off pretty badly at the end. Basically he was still levels below his 18/19 form and how long can the club wait for him to get back his best?

Not obvious to me that he will stay if we get a reasonable bid for him.
