To me it looked lkike the keeper expected it go where it went. I wonder if Bernado was practicing them down the middle and Madrid were aware of it. He almost kicks it straight into the hands of the keeper .... Horrible, horrible penalty regardless
kepa allegedly told lunin how to deal with bernie’s penalty.Read somewhere, the Madrid keeper didn't have any study on Bernie's penalty taking, so it was left to guesswork. Unfortunately, Bernardo's penalty execution left alot to be desired.
He did great outside of the shootout though.
When you win titles every season I don’t care what anyone says the hunger is not the same as someone who’s won nothing and . Bernie will go as soon as anyone meets his value and it’s not in conflict with us as he as already stated he’s open to moving . He has been one of our greatest but we can’t keep everyone every season as we will fielding an over 30 s team because we can’t bear to let them go . Man City will move on regardless of who goes .It's really something isn't it? And God yes, Bernie looks so not bothered about winning trophies and titles… Clearly couldn't give a toss.
Let me say something about that penalty. It is my firm conviction that that was not a penalty taken incompetently. That was the penalty of a walking zombie. It was the gesture of a man who was utterly, totally, completely dead on his feet. He never hits the ball like that. Did anybody see the pressing work that Bernardo got through? Not just right through normal time. He was the only one that was still pressing properly, even in extra time. He had given absolutely everything. He had run his bollocks off — as he does so often for us.
No, I think that one's on Pep, frankly. I am aware that penalty takers are often designated in advance. Whether they are or are not, Pep should have seen what the score was, stepped in and put his hand on Bernie's shoulder and said, “Sorry mate, I know you want to take one, but you're not in a fit state”. There were one or two other possible penalty takers. I would have given it to Gvardiol, possibly. He's got a cool head, and he's shown he can hit a ball very cleanly. But someone else, anyway, and someone reasonably fresh. (Kova's penalty was a different kettle of fish — poor from him, really. But that's another issue, and thread).
Bernardo is overexploited from Pep playing different positions and roles. He started on Gundo position last night and was moved later to RW. That’s his natural position. Like every other player he needs consistency. Otherwise he will have a lot ups and downs. We all love Bernie. He embodies everything good about being a City player and is definitely one of us. His work-rate is probably the best I've seen of any City player. I'll forgive him the penalty as he owes us nothing.
But despite his energy last night, his end product was virtually non-existent and this, for me, has been a consistent pattern this season. We'll all miss him if he moves on but I think, sadly, the time is right.
