2016-17 Champions League Qualifying Matches - (3rd Round, 2nd leg, page 10)

Thanks for clarifying that. Didn't realise they, in effect, get paid twice for the same game (losing the CL playoff, which sends them into the EL and also qualifying for the EL).

It's a compensation thing.

Win the playoff and they get 2M prize money, but guaranteed 12+M in the CL group.

Lose the playoff and they get 3M + about 2.4 (last year anyway).

I think the way to look at it is that it's not for qualifying for the EL, it's for being in the group stages, presumably as a safety net against losing 6 group games and making nothing from it.

So, they get compensated for not qualifying for something? Christ, we should have coined it in back in the 80s and 90s; we couldn't win the toss of the coin back then!
;-)

And €3m for losing the CL playoff, and €900k so far for winning rounds.
Not sure what makes it up to 7.5M

champions league
First Qualifying Round: €200,000
Second Qualifying Round: €300,000
Third Qualifying Round: €400,000
Play-offs Eliminated: €3,000,000
Play-offs Winners: €2,000,000
Base fee for group stage: €12,000,000

Europe League
Base fee for group stage: €2,400,000
Group match victory: €360,000
Group match draw: €120,000
Group winners: €500,000
Group runners-up: €250,000

So; Dundalk have earned€3.9m CL prize money guaranteed so far, with either an extra €2M for qualifying for the CL group stage or, if the lose their playoff, €2.4M for qualifying for the EL group stage. So they're assured of a minimum of €6.3m but, if they get through to the group stage of the CL, that soars to €14.9m (without any money from points won). Er, I think I've got that right!

Pretty much, yes. It does appear to mean that you make more money for winning the playoff than you do without having to play it (and a small amount of extra ranking pts too).

Prize money for winning the Irish League is apparently 475k, so it's quite a good year for them!

Yeah; it's odd that you get more (400k more) for losing the playoff and dropping into the EL than you do for winning it and going into the CL group stage. Then again, look at the base figure for getting into the CL group, €12m. Makes that 400k look like small change!

They usually play on the 'premier sports' channel, there will be plenty of streams for it though.
Cheers, wouldn't mind seeing how Patrick Roberts gets on. Can't see it on Premier on the EPG, not that I have that channel anyway. Will try to find a stream.
