Next Wednesday morning is going to be a nightmare. What’s the betting Trump claims victory in early counting?
For the self proclaimed greatest democracy in the world this is insane! It should be quite straight forward
I didn't see it get too much discussion on here but the Supreme Court decision over Wisconsin will IMO go down as the moment that they fucked up one time too many.
For the conservative justices to write such a sloppy (literally plagiarised and sometimes factually wrong), partisan, illogical and (no surprise) unfounded decision really destroyed any chance for Democrats who're scared of court reform to claim the Supreme Court is beyond reproach.
You've got a self-proclaimed Originalist, Kavanaugh just deciding votes can't be counted if they come out after the deadline when the whole reason there is a 2 month lame duck period is because in 1788...they couldn't announce a winner on the fucking day!
Then, he bases his argument around Vermont not changing their election laws, only for the Secretary of State for Vermont to come out publicly and point out they've made 2 massive changes - including extending the deadline - hence destroying his already stupid argument.
And of course he's ignored all the precedent set by the very same court in April, when they allowed votes through after the deadline in the primaries, and decades of precedent over people being allowed to vote after the deadline as long as they were in line, because in a democracy,
your vote is supposed to count if
you did everything right. The Post Office being shit should not disenfranchise you.
He actually argued it would be wrong to "flip" an unconfirmed election result by counting all of the votes!
Truly, it's killed any kind of pretence that Kavanaugh is anything but a vile partisan hack who will lie, ignore his principles, and invent made up nonsense to push through the Republican result.
When expanding the courts was brought up after RBG's death, a lot of the old, lifer Democrats spoke negatively about it and were weary of taking on that fight. The Kavanaugh Concurrance was so openly and offensively partisan that it will have changed opinions.
If Biden wins and the dems control the senate, there's going to be a huge fight over court reform before 2024.
